Last week my sister hosted our familys yearly reunion...She housed, fed and entertained about a dozen people(paying for food and a rafting trip on the Snake River in Jackson Wyoming)Question is What can I do for her as a thank you that wont cost alot(some of you may recall that I am currently unemployed because of cut backs caused by the ressession) I was going to make her a piece of jewelry but will have to wait until I can afford materials again...Any suggestions that have worked for forum members when they had to give a thank you gift on a strict budget.Everyone has great ideas on this forum so imput would be very much appreciated as always! Thanks.

For Christmas FF and I have in the past made homemade rocky road for family as gifts and they have loved it, tastes great really easy to make and yummy and cheap :).

That''s a lovely idea! Homemade cakes or sweets presented beautifull in a jar or basket & tied with pretty ribbon are always nice! :)

Rocky road. Yum.

I always think that a bunch of flowers (however big or small) is always a really sweet & appreciated gift for any woman.

Also, a card with a few handwritten words of thanks and appreiation from yourself would probably be worth as much as any gift. My FI always writes a small essay inside any card he gives me - and it is the words he writes that always touch my soul. :)

Oh, and a *hug* for you for being such a kind & thoughtful brother!

Cleo I am not sure I would call it a recipe as such because it is really simple

Ingredients
* 1-2 packets of pink and white marshmellows (I use pascals)
* 1-2 packs of soft jubes or any soft jelly like lolly you like - natural confectionery company lollies are my personal fave
* Handful of either crushed or whole unsalted peanuts
* 1-2 blocks of good yummy chocolate (I usually use cadbury)

Optional: you can add desiccated or shredded coconut

You can add more or less of each ingredient or omit things it is really more to personal taste, and to what looks good in the pan the best thing is that there are usually leftovers to munch on later

.

Method
Step 1
Take a square shaped cake pan and line it with baking paper (makes it so much easier to remove the rocky road later). Once you have done this place a good mixture of lollies, marshmellows, nuts (add coconut if you wish) into the pan, make sure to have a good mix of each ingredient across the whole pan.

Step 2
Melt the Chocolate, I use the microwave but you have to do it slowly depending on the power of your microwave 10-20 second intervals is about right. Remove the chocolate after each interval and mix it to ensure consistent melting, you can use a double boiler but I find the microwave easier.

Step 3
Pour the melted chocolate over the mixture in the pan - make sure to get in all the nooks and crannies let it sit for about 10 minutes before popping it into the fridge to set. I would leave it at least 1-2hrs to set fully but once the chocolate is hard your generally good to go.

Step 4
Take the rocky road out of the pan gently remove the paper and slice into desired size with a really sharp knife - this is the hardest bit of the whole procedure.

Step 5
Serve it and enjoy :D

I hope you like it Cleo :D

sounds great! Forget the sister...Im keepin the whole batch for myself!Okay...maybe i will send her a little...
