This is a question that my husband and I debate about all the time. I think the front of the card should face the address-written side of the envelop, however he claims it is more proper to let it face the back side, where the envelope closes.

What do you think? Is there a consensus out there on what is more proper?

Thanks!

Let it face the back side where the envelope closes.

He''s right, the back side!

another vote for the back side. The front of the card is what you should see when you open the envelope.

Yup, the back side where the envelope closes.

You get the same reply from me...the first thing people see when they open the envelope should be the front of the card--thus the front of the card should go on the side with the seal. Otherwise the first thing they see is the barcode and how much you paid for the card!

Ditto!

From my MIL who''s worked at Hallmark for over 20 years, "The card should always face the back. When you lift the flap, you should see the card, not the price."

I agree with your husband.

But there is not absolute reality or truth to such things.
There is only agreements.

It is my opinion that more people agree with your husband than agree with you on this one.

Another vote for back - plus, the design of the card doesn''t show through the envelope on the front.

Agree with all so far - card should appear face-up when you open the flap of the envelope.

My reasoning for facing the back is not what is proper.
It is that I want the recipient to see the front of the card when they open the envelope.
I doubt anyone opens an envelope while looking at the addressed side.

Yep, to whatever one else has said.

I usually put the front towards the front of the envelope. I know that it is supposed to face back, but I always worry that my spit will mess up the front of the card because my tongue is wider than the little area that you are supposed to lick.

Sorry-DH is right!

Yep, Kenny is correct, you should see the front of the card, and the open side of it, when you open the envelope, which is usually done from the back.

Now, if one uses an opener and opens their mail from the front...

Just in case you didn''t believe everyone . . . :)

I too place the card so it faces the closure of the envelope.

Funny how we mostly agree on this one.

You all rock! Thanks so much!

Now I just need to figure out how NOT to get the closing sticky strip on the envelop to also glue onto the card itself!

Back side so when the envelop is opened the person sees the front of the card

I always put the card in facing the back of the envelope and I make sure that I put it in so the spine is on the inside so that when people remove it they don''t have to turn it or flip it and see the front right away.

Thanks, Uppy!

I put it so that the front of the card faces the back, and the folded side of the card faces up.

Haven, while I know you aren''t wholly responsible for the lesson, just the photographing and sharing...I can''t tell you how much it cracked me up to see your pics of the books.
