What kind of "exports" is Israel known for?

Like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, besides diamonds, obviously. And besides like...religious tchotchkies. My friend will be going there with her family for a vacation and asked what kind of souvenirs I wanted. Besides Armenian Tiles and Dead Sea Mud stuff...I have no idea.

When I went to Israel in high school all my friends wanted me to bring them back some hookahs. :cheeky:

Steve's Packs stuff is always popular.

My mom always brings me pretty silver jewelry, and a piece of art to hang on the wall. But these things would kind of fall under religious tchotchkies, I guess!

Oh, and Eilat stone jewelry.

After my sister lived there for a year, all she brought me was a set of tiny little candles shaped like books. They were cute, but they smelled really bad. She had no idea why! :cheeky:

I've been there twice - I always bring back religious tchotchkes and jewelry. Oh and some Dead Sea mud!

There are some nice handmade textiles available in some of the markets too... and lots of jewelry, especially silver jewelry (or maybe I just focused on that?). My SIL found some nice Roman glass jewelry in Old Jerusalem.

I like to ask for something cloth - preferably a couple of dish towels that are from cloth woven in/native to the country. They are small, light, and non-breakable (easy for the gift-giver to travel with), inexpensive and useful (always nice), and I find it cool to have something a bit authentic. Whether it's the pattern, material, whatever, it will make you think of the place they came from. Even if you don't like the ones you get, you can just use them to clean up messes.

Ohh I am super glad that I asked. Thank you all! My husbands suggestion was an Uzi. And while yes I would like one, somehow I don't think they'd let her out or back in with one.

I didn't think about textiles at all. I asked for armenian tiles, especially something in a geometric pattern, one or 4 if they have individual patterns that are like no bigger than like 8in round/square or 4-ish that make a single pattern. I wanted small bec she has limited space, and I refuse to be a space hog. So small. She was like "one tile? are you ridiculous or what" I was like "you are gonna be carrying crap all over the country so I don't wanna be a toolbag".

Religion.

You beat me to it! I was going to say Jesus

Tea towels are a wonderful idea! If she's travelling with a tour group, chances are she'd also have a chance to buy the blue and white head scarves some men in the Pallestinian Territories wear.

Forgot to add that I also brought back rocks from the Negeve for my more contemplative friends... :wink2: and frankincense...

I absolutely will reject that, so I hope she leaves that behind.

She's going with her family, they're Jewish. I believe to visit some family and just go there for a visit overall. She has not been since she was young from what I understand. So I told her teatowels, tiles and dead sea mud ;) Thanks!

Frankincense will make me sneeze so bad.

Leather bags! All kinds and sizes. I believe I paid $50 for my satchel 7 years ago. I would def ask for a wallet :naughty:
Olive wood! Christmas ornaments, angels, dreidels, bells, boxes, chess sets, pens, placemats, you name it.

lol I have like 4 wallets, 3 of which are TUMI, that I may have stocked up on. My current one is over a year in my bag now and barely looks touched. I don't know if i "need" another.
