It is to get older, uglier and fatter.

My husband keeps telling me I'm a great mother (which, hey, I'm not complaining!), but every time he says it, I have a moment of cognitive dissonance - like, what else are you going to be? It's not like there's a not-so-good mother option, short of just abandoning any semblance of self respect. But I do have a tendency to be really quick to make decisions (i.e., almost quit trying to BF as a Christmas present to the baby and myself because he objected so much ... and now that his jaw has grown a tad, a week later, he's doing it happily) ... and a real tendency to be hard on myself (how dare I not have lost all the baby weight inside of 6 weeks!). So ... yeah. For the sake of my sanity - not to mention that of everybody around me! - that's my one resolution for the year. My usual laundry list of self-improvement and ambition can take a backseat for twelve measly months: I have the rest of my life to publish and learn to cook authentic Chinese food/build my own engine/learn to fence etc. etc. etc.

I was going thru a very stressful time, and found a support group that helped me cope. Simplicity was the key. The best message I took away was - "you can not control people, places or things". If I stop and think about whatever it is that has my knickers in a twist, my jet engines revving at Mach 3 and my phasers on "stun"... its usually ME trying to control SOMETHING - and failing at it. I can only be responsible for me. Make the choices that reflect where I want to be, not where I am right now.
It was a huge learning curve to stop being so selfish and put the "greater good" first. I never thought that going thru that experience would ever lead me to where I am today. sometimes, life just throws you a curve ball---- and that CAN be a good thing!
So when I feel like things are slipping under me... breathe. Be calm. Just slow down.![]()

I love reading all these - PS is a v. down-to-earth, realistic group. I can't decide if I like Kenny's pragmatism or Sharon's c'est la vie attitude most ....

You shouldn't be starving. Your body is telling you to eat more. I would suggest adding something extra in, like mabye some cooked chicken and a couple of carrot sticks inbetween meals. You have to keep your blood sugars stable or you might not lose weight. I am on a healthy eating plan that lets you eat 5 times a day so your body doesn't go into starvation mode. It works. Here is some info...

I set goals for myself all year long so I don't feel like I need to come up with THE BIG RESOLUTION once a year. Also, I never hear anyone talk about how great they're doing with their resolution past January 15th.![]()

I found that in 2011, I finished a lot more books and was much more satisfied, overall, because I didn't guilt trip myself over putting down Atlas Shrugged and Snow Crash. lol (I tried twice with each book but was bored with both).

I'll probably get several dozen of those eggs from DF's "how many eggs are in your fridge" thread, but I don't see anything wrong with feeling hungry. Our ancestors weren't satiated at all times, and I think it's normal to let yourself feel hungry. And I think that after you keep to your meal plan for a week or so, your body will get used to surviving on fewer calories. I'm not advocating starvation diets by any means--depending on your caloric needs, you should probably be taking in about 1200-1400 calories per day. I do agree with autumnnovember--you should drink plenty of water, crystal light, herbal tea, whatever to fill your tummy, but I think you will be feeling much better in a couple days.
I love bringing a big bag filled with a variety of raw veggies--all different colors anf textures--to work to snack on. Today I had snap peas, carrots, grape tomatoes, and yellow pepper spears. I would be so over an entire bag of baby carrots, but all the different colors, textures and flavors keeps it interesting, and it's a super healthy low calorie snack that you can eat as much as you want!
My resolution is also to get into shape/tone up and lose some weight. I'm not overweight, but since I started my new job I have really become complacent with my diet anf workout routine and i spend so much time sitting! When I work out regularly, I have so much more energy anf I feel so much better. The cuter butt is a nice byproduct, but i mostly want to FEEL good. Also, it's really depressing to have an entire closet filled with clothes that are too small!!!
