Mine is to lose weight :Up_to_something: I'm 5 days into Weight Watchers online. And I'm starving :knockout:

You shouldn't be starving. Your body is telling you to eat more. I would suggest adding something extra in, like mabye some cooked chicken and a couple of carrot sticks inbetween meals. You have to keep your blood sugars stable or you might not lose weight. I am on a healthy eating plan that lets you eat 5 times a day so your body doesn't go into starvation mode. It works. Here is some info...

I'd like to get back into an exercise routine...not necessarily to lose weight, but to become fitter as I'm heading towards the big 40 this year! I've noticed that there's a huge difference in how you age between 40-50.

Sweat the small stuff less. :errrr:
Be grateful every day. :D

To be a really patient mother - with the baby, and with myself.

My husband keeps telling me I'm a great mother (which, hey, I'm not complaining!), but every time he says it, I have a moment of cognitive dissonance - like, what else are you going to be? It's not like there's a not-so-good mother option, short of just abandoning any semblance of self respect. But I do have a tendency to be really quick to make decisions (i.e., almost quit trying to BF as a Christmas present to the baby and myself because he objected so much ... and now that his jaw has grown a tad, a week later, he's doing it happily) ... and a real tendency to be hard on myself (how dare I not have lost all the baby weight inside of 6 weeks!). So ... yeah. For the sake of my sanity - not to mention that of everybody around me! - that's my one resolution for the year. My usual laundry list of self-improvement and ambition can take a backseat for twelve measly months: I have the rest of my life to publish and learn to cook authentic Chinese food/build my own engine/learn to fence etc. etc. etc.

My New Years resolution is the same every year and I'm really good at keeping it.

It is to get older, uglier and fatter.

Why are you starving?! I did/am doing weight watchers too and you shouldn't be starving! Drink more water!

My resolution is to work out!

I lost all my weight without working out last year and I've finally decided its time to tone up!

You will be able to do it - just stay positive and true to it!

HI:

Mine is the same every year--not to buy more hair care products before I've used up the last bunch...in fact I broke my resolution within 1 hour of making it! (but that Kevin Murphy volumizer was SO worth it! :halo: )

cheers--Sharon

I don't think I've ever made a New Year's resolution. I really don't see the point. I set goals for myself all year long so I don't feel like I need to come up with THE BIG RESOLUTION once a year. Also, I never hear anyone talk about how great they're doing with their resolution past January 15th. ;))

I would like to stop overthinking things. I am also going to cancel my gym membership and start running again.

I usually don't have a resolution, because I'm pretty good at setting goals (whether or not I attain them) all year long. But this year, I have one very specific resolution. Instead of immediately grabbing my packed lunch and eating/working at my desk for that precious 32 minute lunch break, I'm going to follow my students out the door and take a 5-10 minute walk around the building before finding somewhere to just enjoy the break and not work at the same time. I'm hoping that this will clear my head, give me the opportunity to wash my hands before eating (with actual soap and water rather than just a smear of hand sanitizer), get a bit of fresh air, and be unavailable to needy students!

Circe, I think that's a great resolution. Now that my baby is off at college I find myself so nostalgic about that first year. I wish I had understood how fleeting it would be!

I want to lose weight and get healthier and try to pay off some of my debt....I really, really, really want to reset my rings, but I gotta pay some debt off first....so that is my first priority lol

To lose the Cookie, Candy weight I put on over the holidays.... Not trying to have a major loss just recover and it's harder now than it used to be... as I get older dropping a couple pounds is monumental.

I would like to be calmer. Not to over react when confronted with things that bother me. I'd like to breathe/think/then react. I'd really like to be able to apply more of my messages I learned a few years ago, on a more regular basis.

To be a better person... (and someone who sparkles when she walks by and waves!! HAHAHAHA!!!)

circe, I'm sure you are a good mother; I can tell just from this post how aware and thoughtful you are. And I love your attitude about having the rest of your life to publish, etc. I wish I'd known when I had my children just how quickly the time goes, and (here comes a "duh" statement), you can't get that time back. You'll never regret one second you spend with your son. I'm also so glad you are continuing with breastfeeding. It is so rewarding and I have such wonderful memories of nursing my five babies. Congratulations on your little one!

All good resolutions, Enerchi! :) I wish I could consistently remember to "breathe first". It takes practice and so far, I am not doing too well with it. If it's not nosy, what messages did you learn a few years ago?

Why isn't there an icon for a :::sparkly wave::: ? We need one!

Thanks Maria D. and BlueIris! Maria, I'm with you - a working lunch is no lunch at all. BlueIris, what's your resolution?

I love reading all these - PS is a v. down-to-earth, realistic group. I can't decide if I like Kenny's pragmatism or Sharon's c'est la vie attitude most ....

Well... they weren't "voices" in my head or anything! lol!! (just want that cleared up from the start, FYI!)

I was going thru a very stressful time, and found a support group that helped me cope. Simplicity was the key. The best message I took away was - "you can not control people, places or things". If I stop and think about whatever it is that has my knickers in a twist, my jet engines revving at Mach 3 and my phasers on "stun"... its usually ME trying to control SOMETHING - and failing at it. I can only be responsible for me. Make the choices that reflect where I want to be, not where I am right now.

It was a huge learning curve to stop being so selfish and put the "greater good" first. I never thought that going thru that experience would ever lead me to where I am today. sometimes, life just throws you a curve ball---- and that CAN be a good thing!

So when I feel like things are slipping under me... breathe. Be calm. Just slow down. :halo:

I made 2...I think I can stick to both.

1. Get fit. I have been exercising more lately and want to stick with it. I need to lose some pounds, but I'm not going to stress myself with a specific # amount.

2. Pay off my car. My scheduled last payment will be April 2013, but if I throw a little more money at it, I can get it paid off by the end of the year. Looking forward to more money in my pocket each month not having to make a car payment!

Voices in your head? That doesn't even sound abnormal to me! :D I'm glad you found help with your group and a message that can help you in stressful times. Learning that the only person you have control over is yourself is a tough lesson, one I've learned many times in my life. I tend toward what I call "catastrophic thinking" and I have been trying not to do that as much. It's hard to break a lifetime of UN-coping skills, isn't it?!

Sometime this year, I hope to get more fit and lose a little weight, eat less sugar (very hard for me, I love to bake!), and better myself in as many ways as I can manage. These goals are so open-ended that I'm sure I'll succeed, even if it's just a little! :D

I intend to try and eat healthier, and to make myself less available to family/friends who always need help with things, as I'll be working full time and going to school full time as well. I simply cannot do it all, and I need some time to focus on myself.

I'll probably get several dozen of those eggs from DF's "how many eggs are in your fridge" thread, but I don't see anything wrong with feeling hungry. Our ancestors weren't satiated at all times, and I think it's normal to let yourself feel hungry. And I think that after you keep to your meal plan for a week or so, your body will get used to surviving on fewer calories. I'm not advocating starvation diets by any means--depending on your caloric needs, you should probably be taking in about 1200-1400 calories per day. I do agree with autumnnovember--you should drink plenty of water, crystal light, herbal tea, whatever to fill your tummy, but I think you will be feeling much better in a couple days.

I love bringing a big bag filled with a variety of raw veggies--all different colors anf textures--to work to snack on. Today I had snap peas, carrots, grape tomatoes, and yellow pepper spears. I would be so over an entire bag of baby carrots, but all the different colors, textures and flavors keeps it interesting, and it's a super healthy low calorie snack that you can eat as much as you want!

My resolution is also to get into shape/tone up and lose some weight. I'm not overweight, but since I started my new job I have really become complacent with my diet anf workout routine and i spend so much time sitting! When I work out regularly, I have so much more energy anf I feel so much better. The cuter butt is a nice byproduct, but i mostly want to FEEL good. Also, it's really depressing to have an entire closet filled with clothes that are too small!!!

Mine is the same as last year. Read as many books as I can. Also, not to torture myself through books that I can't get into. I found that in 2011, I finished a lot more books and was much more satisfied, overall, because I didn't guilt trip myself over putting down Atlas Shrugged and Snow Crash. lol (I tried twice with each book but was bored with both).

Oh, monarch, I almost made a post like this yesterday but decided it sounded too crabby. My husband keeps asking me what my resolutions are, and I just don't have any and probably never will. I keep track of my life goals at 43things.com and I do pretty well at attaining them. It kind of bugs me how busy my gym gets this time of year, but it's always back to normal by February. :cheeky:

Ahh, THIS! My goal is always just to read books that I enjoy. If it's boring or I'm not liking it, I can put it down, no regrets. For some reason, I pushed myself to finish 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' when I was hating it the whole time. It did get me interested in other Swedish writers, though, so that's something. Camilla Lackberg is a new favorite author.

Tuffy, Autumn, Maisie, Thanks for the WW advice. Don't worry, I'm eating all my points and getting plenty of liquids  I did it about five-six years ago and I remember being absolutely starving for the first week, and then my stomach kind of adjusted. I'm crossing my fingers that the same will happen this time. If not I'll have to buy more fruit. I never buy that much of it at a time because it always seems to go bad before DH and I can eat it all. Maybe I'll start buying less during my weekend grocery shopping ad start running to the store midweek. We'll see.

Everyone has some really productive, improving resolutions (Kenny: LOL): getting healthier and paying down debt are always good goals to have =) I saw a FB post yesterday along those lines that was hysterical: "Dear Lord, my prayer for 2012 is a thin body and fat bank account. Please don't mix them up like you did last year." ;))

Circe, I'm sure you're a wonderful mother. And although I don't have kids yet so I can't speak from personal experience, I think your feelings and worries are probably pretty normal.

Good luck on your resolutions everyone!!!!!
