What is your attitude towards saving for rainy days and pensions?

@dk168 Would you consider renting a camper van first to see if you like it, and to test and see what options will be important to you? Curious as to why you prefer new and are looking at a high spec camper? I think you should definitely get a camper and fulfill your dreams (you only live once!), but after the custom camper, do you have enough saved for retirement in case you're no longer able to work?

It's personal preference as I don't like getting anything secondhand.

I am not the original owner of my house and pets, otherwise I know the provenance of everything else that I own.

Again, it is a personal choice with regard to functional features and fuel types I would like in a van. Such a combination is specific to my needs, and I have no choice except to go down the custom route.

It is not dissimilar to why so many peeps prefer to have their custom designed jewellery made, myself included, to suit their individual needs and wants.

I camped in a tent since 2009 on my own with the dog. So I like camping.
Switching to a camper van allows me to continue camping for longer.

I do not wish to tow a caravan which would be cheaper. It is more impractical compared to a van due to storage etc., and I would need it custom built for the same reason that nothing on the market suits my needs.

Having as high a spec is my mind clean in a van. I like to get it right first time without having to regret opting for something inferior in future.

I did not like a tin tent in the past, as they feel cramped compared to a spacious tent. However, if I do not switch unit, then I would not be able to go camping.

I also discovered another reason why I did not like tin tents in the past - their designs did not suit my needs.

Any custom work will incur a higher price, van and jewellery alike.

And yes to having sufficient savings in the event I am not able to work. I am a healthcare professional with good job and career prospects.

Thanks for your concerns.

Thanks both!

I had looked into taking the van across the pond, however, it is VERY expensive and not that easy to arrange, and the dog won't be able to come with me! :confused2:

Hey ho!

DK :))

You can take a dog to the US, you just have to be organised. I have friends who moved to the US for 2 years, and they took their 3 dogs, they didn’t have to be quarantined at either end. You have to get all your paperwork sorted out and the dog has to be vet checked again on the day of departure.

Taking the van over is going to be more difficult, however I have not given up on that idea, not yet.

Hi,

DK-- Do you a few pictures of your pop-up kitchen. I would love to see what this looks like. I have not heard of this unless we call it something else.

Yes, I do agree, you ought to enjoy the rest of your life.
