What is the very first piece of bling you fell in love with?

I really don't remember. My grandmother was a jeweler and antique dealer. I was always surrounded by gems and the tools (and stinky polishing tools) that they require. My mom's Kashmir sapphire and grandmother's Russian icon necklace (enamel) are strong memories.

My mum has had a pair of faceted cube crystals of some sort with 9ct gold posts, that throw off all sorts of rainbow colours and aurora borealis type effects, for about 30 years. I adored them and still feel a flutter of delight and nostalgia when she puts them on. She tends to live in her tiny BGD hoops we got her for her 60th. but occassionally wears those crystals. My two year old daughter loves to poke and prod them when they're in mum's ears...I think we've created another monster :lol-2:

None yet.

Watching my Mum put on her jewellery, but specifically her Ceylon sapphire & diamond engagement ring I suppose. When we were little we used to play dress ups with my grandmothers costume jewellery so the love of bling & gemstones has been with me as long as I can recall. I used to even collect shiny pebbles from the creek on the farm!

Both my Nanas gave me strings of costume pearls and blingy rings etc when I was really young, like a toddler. My dad tells me the story of when he would come and check on me before he went to bed and would usually find me half strangled with ropes and ropes of necklaces wound round my neck.

One of my very first memories is being taken into town to a real Jewellers store by my dad when I was about 3 years old to get my ears pierced.

I always asked to try on my aunties engagement rings. It was the early 1980's. One had a princess Diana style green sapphire and diamond cluster and the other had a gorgeous moi et toi old cut diamond ring that was her mums. Now my 5 and 4 year old granddaughters ask to try my rings on which makes me burst with happiness.

My bio dad gave me a gold puffy heart on a box chain when I was 7 years old.

I really want one now...the tiniest of puffy hearts, but I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for.

This is a fun thread! We weren't allowed to have REAL jewelry of any kind until we turned 14. On that birthday we were allowed to go out and pick out a "ring of value," which is a strange tradition, but we were super excited to do it! My sister's was lost over the years, but I still have mine - it was a sapphire and diamond cluster ring, with the world's tiniest diamond chip set in the center. Sapphire is my birthstone and has always been my favorite stone. We didn't have much money, so finding a sapphire ring was difficult - we found this one in a local antique store. The stones are DARK, and look almost black, and the middle is white gold mostly with an itty bitty diamond chip. I love this ring - I'm still sort of impressed with my 14 year old self for picking out something that wasn't trendy and has a beautiful antique design. I don't wear it much, but I do love it, and from then on...I was a jewelry lover! my 14th birthday ring3.jpg my14th birthday ring.jpg

Isn’t it awesome how early we learned to love bling!

I think the first piece I remember clearly was probably one of my mothers peices. She had this jade drop pendant. It was originally an earring if I remember right but she had it made into a pendant. I was allowed to wear it for first or second grade pictures. I was so proud and happy to be allowed to wear it that day. I wish I knew what happened to it.
