What is the most exciting thing you have ever done?

I love your pics, Skippy!

I live a dull life as far as adventure goes. Had five kids, that is pretty much all the excitement I could take. (I could so tell you stories that would make your hair stand on end!) Other than that, a white water rafting trip years ago is the sum total of all the adventurous things I have done. But that's okay, cause I really don't like to be scared!

I bungee jumped of of a train bridge in the napa valley (illegally, I have to add) when I was about 18. I also swam with giant stingrays about 6 years ago, about a year before Steve Irwin died from getting stabbed by one.

Nowadays, with 2 kids we've been going less adrenaline pumping things, the most recent was probably ziplining in a tropical rainforest in St. Lucia lst year, but that was more exhilarating than scary.

Flying an airplane, of course. Here are some photos from my first cross country trip back in 2002. DD was 15 and we flew from our home airport in Minnesota to Buffalo, NY. Only about 7% of all pilots are women and it was special to show her what women can do. She has grown up to be quite a special lady herself.

For me it was when I was setting on the floor of the plane with my feet hanging out and hearing the jump master say "it's time". I was sure I was going to die but I pushed off and out the door I went. If you haven't jumped out of a plane, you should. It's quite a rush. The second time is ok, the first time is great!

Now days things have calmed down. My wife's dune buggy can be fun. She rarely wants to drive but loves to give instructions. I can't count who many times I've heard "Don't do it Joe, don't do it". Sometimes it works and sometimes not. For the most part she's a good sport about it.

I can't decide between:

* an afternoon of re-editing a live show for almost immediate re-broadcast. Last tape made it in w/less than a minute to spare. Bonus points for excruciating GYN pain (probably a ruptured cyst).

or

* flying into Florence, Italy in the middle of the night ... by myself, not knowing anyone or the language.

I"ll give two. For a happy exciting - hiking Mt. Mitchell with my SO in the snow. It was the first time we had seen that much snow ever, and getting to the top and building a snowman and seeing the world below us was this huge rush.

Bad - spinning across the interstate with my mom. That's scary stuff. You see the cars coming at you, but missing you, and you pray you'll stop right side up, and not in traffic. Terrifying.

I have a few...

Soloing an airplane for the first time.

Rock climbing. Experienced many of epic adventures with my DH and BIL... some not intended. :errrr:

Racing at Daytona on the high banks. I raced on the road course, but it uses both ends of track which are steeply banked. You know you're going fast when you're windshield starts to buckle!

Mushing a team of Siberians. Absolute heaven!

then: v-back after c-section - words can't express. tandem skydive - it was only the second time i had ever been in a plane. the guy strapped to me was thrilled to learn that minutes before we were about to jump out! *loved* that.

now: knee-boarding and nailing 360s. that and getting the dishes done.

Bungy jumping and skydiving are definitely tied for first! I try to bring a LOT of adventure into my life, so I probably have given my mother many grey hairs, and she'll have many more before I calm down, haha. (Sorry, Mom!) Travel is my favourite way to add excitement, but I've got a few more things on my to-do list that I can't wait to do. And I started rock climbing about a year ago, and I'm getting into bouldering now, so the next step is to get outside the gym and climb real rock!

I think that's PLENTY of excitement!

I've had that! It's HORRIBLE! My worst, was 5 cm across, and I had no idea what was going on. Ended up at the hospital and they saw it on the ultrasound. Demerol is a wonderful thing. ;)) I had them off and on for years afterward (smaller, though), then I got pregnant with my DD and it seemed to "reset" everything, and I never had them again.

Threadjack over.

I'm not sure if this counts, but we moved to a new city with $800 in our pockets and started our own company. We didn't know anybody in town, and just slogged around looking for work. Three months into it, we found out I was pregnant. So, yeah, that was pretty exciting, I guess. . . :?

After 25+ hectic, crazy years of running the company, my goal is NOT to get the adrenaline pumping

I have to laugh about the parachute jumping. The saying among pilots is, why would you want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

Scariest is when the engine of our plane failed over India.

There was another engine of course or your truly wouldn't be here!

Emergency landing.

I've also almost drowned in Australia, survived a hurricane in asia, a sandstorm in the middle east (car got dug out eventually)

I don't need to seek thrills apparently :errrr:
