What is the largest carat size you feel comfortable wearing?

For me, in terms of comfort, etc, at the moment, my diamond carat limit is probably around 2.5 carats for a RB solitaire. (Size 7.75 finger) But, if we''re talking gemstones...I''ve got pretty much no limit.

I''d go with 2.5ct round, or a 4ct asscher/octavia ;)

Ha, I know this puts me in a tiny minority around here, but for a round brilliant I'd say .75, maybe up to a full carat would be my limit. Any bigger than that and I'd feel like I was trying to show off.

For a simple solitaire setting, like the BGD Grace or the Vatche Royal Empress, I could wear a 3+ carat diamond on my 7.75 finger and it would look balanced, size-wise. But that carat size would be hopelessly inappropriate for my lifestyle and it would rarely be worn.

I'd love a 5+ emerald cut stone, but again, it wouldn't be practical for my lifestyle. But I'd love to own one, and would if I suddenly found myself awash in extra cash!

Right now I have a 1 carat in a large halo and with my finger size, it works. I have the largest diamond of all my friends and family -- people where I live are modest, and live the "upscale intellectual" lifestyle, which means they spend more money at REI on hi-tech bikes, bike gear, etc., in a year than I ever will on a single piece of jewelry!

But when I'm ready for a change in setting, I'll upgrade my RB to approximately 1.5 carats, and set it in a Harry Winston replica with baguettes. 1.5 carats is about as large as I could go and still be able to wear the ring without my friends thinking I've totally lost it.

I''d be comfortable wearing 2.5-3 ct RB. What I would be comfortable with is different from what is reality.

I wear a size 3.5 so maybe 1.75 ct. I have had my 1.25 for 4 years. I haven''t had the urge to upgrade. I''m happy with it.

My job is pretty hands on, so for an every day diamond my upper limit would be a 1.5 ct stone set low (in a Leon or Grace like setting). But I am happy with my 1.15 ct stone. It has a presence without screaming "I am a big ring!"

Talking about a center stone? I have a 3.15 ctw 5 stone.

I'd totally sport a 3+ ct center, but anything bigger than 2 would probably make me a little uncomfortable in some of the circles we run in. Actually, a 1 ct is bigger than most. I often find myself trying to hide my ring/hand because I don't want to draw attention to it/me for fear of making others uncomfortable.

Nice quality diamonds and fine jewelry in general are a bit out of proportion for our lifestyle/circles. Most would think it's fake or speculate, which doesn't really bug me. Most of the military wives I know brag about their Zales rings and "bling" from other B&M vendors.

I think once we move back to San Diego and mingle with civilians it will be less of an issue. It's only an issue when I'm around other military wives.

Hmm, tough question. I live near NYC, in a very reach area where 3-4ct would not be that unusual. However, I grew up in a place where something like that was unheard of, so I''m pretty sure 3+ would make me uncomfortable anyway. I''ll say 2.5-3 would be my max.

The largest size I feel comfortable wearing = the largest stone my BF could pay cash for without compromising his financial security.

I would be pretty comfortable with a 2.5 RB or a 3 ct. in a fancy shape (maybe bump it up to a 3.5 for an asccher
2.gif
). I have small hands (size 3.25) and I'm young, but it's not uncommon to see larger rings on our classmates in law school and definitely not among the lawyers at law firms, so I could pull it off

ETA: I wouldn't be uncomfortable wearing that size back home - my parents' circle of friends appreciates jewelry, especially large jewelry, and my friends know I love bling - but I might be a bit uncomfortable wearing it to BF's home (his parents are very frugal, and his brothers are financially comfortable but by no means wealthy)

I am not a very good PSer b/c I have never really thought about my "dream" size. In fact I feel like I might get a smaller ring to wear eventually b/c I have a feeling once a graduate I will not feel 100% comfortable wearing my current e-ring with the population I will treat.

At my office none of the other lawyers wear their wedding rings nor does the office manager. Now of this group 4 are men and 2 are women...but all are very family oriented and been happily married for decades. And...most of their spouses do not wear theirs either.

I am the only lawyer who does. The legal assistants and staff almost all do wear theirs though!

Depends on the stone cut. On a RB, I would go to 4 ct and that would be ok. I have tried a 5ct round and was not comfortable. In a fancy cut, 5 - 5.5 ct is fine. I have tried them in emerald cut and pear and both looked good. But I love my 2.6ct haloed RB, it suits me just fine and I rarely get the driving desire to upgrade. I cannot believe I just wrote that, but it''s true!

Maybe a 1.25-1.5ct pear or oval with some nice side stones? I don''t know, I''m young (early 20''s) and larger rings are VERY uncommon where I live but I do have larger fingers and I counldn''t say no to a massive ring if I was offered or could easily afford it. SO I could get over the social and practical innapropriateness for the right rock

Hi Jaysonsmom! Long time no see here! What's this about an upgrade??? lol

I think for my lifestyle ( we're both in our 30's, three kids, have a house, live in one of the five boroughs of NY, etc.) the size I currently have is just perfect. It is a 2.417 ACA, so I think it's just the right size.
I had a 2 carat ACA and I always felt like it was just right, not too big, but not too small. I had that stone since 2003. This new stone (which I got last year) is just perfect. Just big enough for me to think "hey, that's a big rock", but not big enough for me to be uncomfortable to wear.

Do I think about upgrading it? No, but I know eventually I want to find a permanent setting for it once I find the right one or I can make up my mind. Until then, I will keep it the way it is.

I do hope you find the stone of your dreams. Have you thought about getting another shape? I have a pear that is 1.5 carats and it just looks big to me, but it's also a plain solitaire, so maybe that makes it look bigger too.

ETA: I think I might have the biggest diamond in my circle, I am not sure because I am the only diamond nut and no one else around me really cares, except for some LIW gals at work. No one in my family really cares about diamonds like me.

When I first got the ring, I would turn it around because I was actually embarassed to wear it around my family, but eventually, I started to wear it more often. I realized why have this diamond in my possession and not wear it. I now wear this one almost all the time, whereas with the 2 carat I had, I hardly ever wore, only for special occasions.

I don''t have a solitare.. but based on living with my .42 carat (each) studs, I think I could probably handle anything between 1-1.75 or so.. I have pretty short, small fingers.. and I''m also short and small :)
My mom wears a pretty blingy 3 stone ring but I have 2 siblings so I won''t inherit the whole ring, just one stone

I''m perfectly fine with my 1.5 ct RB. Even when I thought I had lost my ring and could have gotten a larger diamond as a replacement, I wasn''t interested. My largest RHR is a 5 ct amethyst. I''m willing to wear a big piece of quartz, but a diamond? No thanks.

At the firm I was working at this past summer, man, there was some serious blingage. One girl''s ring in particular - it was just incredible. She had tiny fingers but it looked like a 2.5-3 ct.-ish cushion with trap sides. Huge, blingy, but she wore it SO well - it looked great on her. And there were definitely a few others that made you go, WOW!

My 2 ct is perfect for me right now given my hands-on job, regular usage of gloves, and having work on a university campus. I hope to possibly upgrade to an approx 3 ct stone in 5 years or so after I have graduated and gone into a job where I no longer do labwork.

For me and in my circle of friends and family, I have one of the bigger diamond already and I have a 1 carat cushion. I think later on, I may want something around 2-3 carats but I''d really like to see what 10+ carats would look on me! Well at least I can dream and live thru the psers who have them beauties!

I have had my last upgrade for about a year. It is a 2.57 (8.8 mm). I won''t ever get another bigger. If I won the lottery, maybe...... but since I don''t ever play that
won''t happen. The price jump after that is not worth it to me.

One of my friends has a 2 ct, but it faces up small, I think. I don''t see a lot at my church either, and I have had a few unwelcome comments about it. It makes
me feel like leaving it at home sometimes.

I love the look of it, and the sparkle makes me happy, but I would have to say this is it for me.

Since I like fancy''s I''d say I could easy handle 4-5 carats.

5-7 cts, if it was a fancy cut

up to 4.5ct if it was a RB

I''m 30, very active (gym 5 days a week), no kids and live in a nice area of Dallas, TX(everything really is bigger here). I currently have a 1.5 ct center stone that faces up to about 1.8 in a halo setting. I think I could easily accommodate a 2.5-2.7 ct center stone in the same sort of setting and pull it off at this point in my life. Although, my husband paid cash for my ring and I don''t see any upgrades in our near future....So 10 years from now, I''ll bump that figure up to 3.0 center stone. Personally, I don''t know if I would feel comfortable going much larger.

For RB, I''d say 3ct. Other shapes, whatever the equivalent finger coverage to a RB 3ct. I suppose...

I don't wear a diamond ring at the moment, If I were to receive a ring now, the biggest I'd be comfortable wearing would be 1.5-2 ct.

I think that the biggest I'd be comfortable wearing a few years down the road, would be a RB in the 3ct range, though in a VERY simple setting, as in a solitaire and probably plain wedding band.

I'm in Europe, and I don't generally see that many diamonds here. I have seen a couple of rings in the 3-4 ct range, in "simple" solitaire settings, so they were a bit more discreet (eventhough a 3ct is anything but discreet, haha).

ETA: Most people that I know wear either plain YG/WG bands or thinner diamond pave bands, my mom has probably the biggest diamond in my circle of friends and family, she wears a 0.50 ct, and that is considered big where I live.

Not sure there''s such a thing as a carat limit with me! However I think probably 3-3.5 is the highest I would go for. While I''m still young, DH and I are in NYC and he''s going to be an associate in a very highly ranked firm so I have a feeling there''s going to be some incredible blingage from the other wives.

More likely though when I get a new ering I have pretty small fingers so I''d like around 2cts for a rb solitaire, but I''d also like around 1.5ct yellow asscher. What can I say I''m greedy and indecisive.

this depends on so much - right now in China the most I''d feel comfortable wearing is 1/2 carat. It''s not a safety issue but an "I don''t want to rub it in their faces" issue. Not that there aren''t plenty of rich chinese people, but I really don''t care what they think or how they feel. I have a ton of middle class chinese people I deal with on a daily basis and wouldn''t want to show off like that.

To the met opera in nyc? I''d be comfortable with 15 carats no problem ;)

To answer your question though haha - probably 3 carats.

HI:

Do you mean, diamond? I am comfortable wearing large colored gemstones and have several in the 20ct plus range I wear all the time. At present my ER is relatively large and in general, I wear it with ease. Doesn''t mean I wear it everywhere all the time, but those are specific occasions. I would not choose to wear a RB greater than probably 3.5 carats, simply b/c I do not care for the look of high carat weight RB''s, not because I would be uncomfortable.

cheers--Sharon
