What gets you out of a funk?

I wrote a whole post about the bad day I was having, before I realized that the things I was complaining about weren't really a big deal in the grand scheme of life, or even in the grand scheme of a year. But, it did make me wonder: what gets you back up when you're feeling blue?

This is corny, but whatever: I put in the movie "Pride and Prejudice," slip into another world and just forget about everything else.

Read a "fluff" book, one that requires little brain energy, while curled up in bed with the cat. Works every time. But if all else fails, shopping is a surefire way to brighten your day. Buying things always makes me happy... even if it''s just really good smelling shampoo.

Listening to Johnny Cash or Bob Marley. Both of their songs just calm me down and bring me back into my happy zone.

Sometimes cooking helps too.

Writing out what''s on my mind in point form from most worrysome to least,

Then tidying up my house and cleaning up some clutter.

Yes. Marley makes Bia very happy!

Alone time gets me out of a funky mood. Usually a movie, yummy snacks, and a glass of wine. And a good night''s rest.

Good old fashioned light exercise, out in the fresh air!

If it''s only a lil funk, upbeat music will do it.

i dont cry much, but if i'm really feeling blue, i find if i cry, after a bit i finish crying - having 'plumbed the depths' so to speak, then kinda look up and out at the world again and think "well, ok, that wasn't so bad..."

normally tim comes and cuddles me and we'll often go to the movies; i LOVE movies!

but if i'm by myself, a play in my jewelry box normally helps

and there's always the 'phone-a-friend' option...

by the way - it's a little known fact that there are no calories in chocolate if it's eaten when one is very depressed.

Kitty snuggles, chocolate, and puppy snuggles. Unfortunately, I have no pets, so I have to borrow others'' to get my snuggles. I''m not above stopping people''s dogs on the street for a hug or two. Ohhh Whitbyyy...

Aw Whitby that''s too cute.

Dogs definitely do make me feel better but unfortunately I don''t have one at the moment, but I''m hoping that won''t last much longer. I''ve been bugging SO for months now so he''ll have to give in soon.

I like to just rent a comedy or romantic comedy. Its nice to just get wrapped up in something besides my silly issues for a while and by the time the movie''s over I''ve usually forgotten about what was bothering me.

Seriously, she's a beautiful dog and I've no doubt she could cheer up just about anyone!

I tickle my kids, chase them around the house, or I clean and organize. I have movies that make me happy, like Parent Trap (Hayley Mills, not the LL one), Labyrinth, Princess Bride, Singin in the Rain. I''ll browse youtube for songs..sometimes I need a crying jag and I''ll look for sad country songs..I sob hysterically and sing while I clean the kitchen, and then I feel better. I spent a few days listening to The Rainbow Connection and Time in a Bottle..Kermit never ceases to bring a smile to my face.

Sadly... shopping! Nothing like a little retail therapy to pick me up.

Whitby, Dapple is GORGEOUS!! What a beautiful dog.

I listen to music that I grew up with in the 1970s. I converted most of my old albums to mp3 format and then burn them to a disc. When no one is home I turn up the volume and sing (and very badly I must admit), but it lifts my spirits every time when I don''t have the time to exercise.

Yeah, sometimes shopping for me too. Depends on why I''m having a funk. Other times, my best "cure" is watching a chick flick and having a good cry.

Cooking really helps me relax and focus on something besides what''s bothering me. Especially if it''s something I''ve made a million times and involves a lot of chopping veggies. I concentrate on chopping (so I don''t cut a finger off!) and forget about everything else.

Snuggling with my bunny or watching him run around like a crazy bun. When he kicks his little furry feet up with joy, I can''t help but smile

And of course, a nice glass of wine and a movie - preferably Pride and Prejudice!

Doing something a little social. A lunchdate with a friend or something like that. Also a good night''s sleep. I always feel a bit better in the morning!

As for me, sometimes a good nap will do it for me. Other times I just need FI to make a yummy dinner, which he''s quite good at. Other times it''s a movie marathon. Depends on the occasion. I try to check myself a lot though, I''ll ask myself why I''m upset about something. It has really taught me a lot about myself.

Something else I like to do is watch outtakes from shows, like Whose Line is it Anyway and Will & Grace..they make me laugh, and who doesn''t need a good laugh? Oh, and that Ellen show where she called that lady and the lady was going on and on about Ellen''s plant and how she likes to drink. That about made choke the first time I watched it.

Hot showers usually help. I also find that baking chocolate chip cookies does wonders (even just for a little while, anyway!). What else? Movies, mindless reading, taking a nap...

ETA: I forgot snuggling with our two cats (okay, and my husband, occasionally )

I know! Terrible. But even funnier is that seal-like sound she makes! I mean, I hope she was ok but that sound cracks me up!

a clean house - unfortunately I hate to clean when I''m in the dumps, so the scenario usually starts with purchasing something for my house that requires me to set up a vignette for it and from that one clean corner it just kind of radiates out and I take breaks to look at my shopping coup and continue... pretty soon the house feels great again and so do I

To add to my earlier post: nothing cheers me up like talking to my friends. About nothing in particular, just ringing them up for a chat, or meeting up for tea or whatever.

Alternatively, doing something positive for either myself or someone else usually works. This could include cleaning, completing and sending off that form that I should have done last week, donating blood, bringing old clothes to the charity shop etc etc...you get what you give

Also...something that focuses my attention on something else can work too. For me, that''s playing the piano, baking/cooking, going for a drive etc.
