Fried pork chops and fried potatoes, my mom made them almost every tuesday or wednesday

Jello. My younger sister would put it in her mouth and would swish it around to liquefy it and then she would spray it out. Gross. Still can't look at the stuff! I remember the color green . . . LOL! Surprising that I still like emeralds!

Macaroni and cheese with PB&J

Kielbasa, pierogi, kapusta golumbki, etc. From a culinary point of view it was a wonderful childhood.

I forgot Chocolate pudding, My other Grandmother used to make it all the time. And another treat she''d make was Lace cookies... OMG, they were too die for!!!

Pillsbury cinnamon rolls! I used to love to "pop" the can. The cans are definitely shorter and narrower than they used to be.

My Mum''s chocolate pudding with a skin from cooling.

Spaghetti-O

Now I''m hungry and homesick!

My dad worked swing shifts, so many of my food memories are tied up with my mom hating to cook and not having to make sit down dinners because my dad wasn''t home. She fed us some random stuff.

Cornbread (my mom would make this, and only this, for dinner sometimes; we put butter and syrup on top, yum)
Spaghetti
Breakfast for dinner (sausage, panckakes, french toast, etc.)
Hamburger Patties w/ ketchup for dipping
Fish sticks
Pimento loaf sandwiches
Tator tots
Sub sandwhiches (we would pick them up and go sit on the roof of the parking garage of my dad''s work and have dinner with him)
Carrot cake (I''ve never tasted better than my mom''s carrot cake, it''s the only cake I can think of that I actually ask for and want)
Pears
Bananas
Sliced apples
Ham and scalloped potatoes
Split pea casserole
Pepsi (my mom and her dad LOVE(d) the stuff)

Fried pepuyu/ikan puyu... Its a type of small fish that lives in paddy fields and they are seriously the most delicious fish I have ever tasted. The meat is moist and tasty.

My grandma always marinated the fish first and deep fry them. I eat it with rise and homemade chilli paste. I am drooling now......

"The ikan Puyu is also called ikan Betuk in malay. And in English, it is called the Climbing Perch (Anabas Testudineus). The ikan Puyu is a common fresh water fish in Asia. It is a very hardy and unusual fish. During the drought, it has the ability to aestivate (hibernate) in the mud and emerge during a more favourable period.
Whilst I do not know about its mystical powers, what I do know is that the ikan Puyu is an important source of protein amongst the villages. The ikan Puyu are also kept as pets and help keep the mosquito population in check."

So i guess its english name is "Climbing Perch"

meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, apple crisp, blueberry crisp, mac and cheese and mac and 'juice' (tomato based with hamburger).

Hamburger Helper

When I go to the US I have to investigate this product. Stephen King has mentioned it in a few books and I am curious....
34.gif

For me it would have to be ''fat frogs'' an apple flavoured ice lolly formed in the shape of...you guessed it, a frog.
I had lots of hamburger helper (and tuna helper, I think even a chicken helper?) growing up. It''s just a package that has everything you need to make __________ except the meat. So you cook everything up, throw in the meat, and you''re done.

Glorified box mac & cheese in many cases.
My mom was the queen of semi-homemade years before Sandra Lee. She used to jazz up the Hamburger Helper with all the fixins and completely transform it! The chili macaroni flavor was my favorite.

Did anyone else eat Now and Laters as a kid? I lost several baby teeth, b/c they would get stuck to my teeth.

I loved the grape and strawberry ones. I liked Zots too.

I forgot about Star Crunch. MMMMMM!!!!!!!!

Fairy bread- buttered white bread with 100s and 1000s sprinkles on them.

Tomato potatoes (was a poverty dish made when my parents were kids... basic boiled potatoes with crushed tomatoes)
Chicken paprikas
Beef & cabbage casserole
Stuffed peppers
Stuffed cabbage
Extra pie dough rolled out over a cookie sheet, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, and baked

...My grandma did this all the time!
A mug of milk with a splash of coffee

German potato salad with extra vinegar

We ate a lot of German and Hungarian food growing up. My mom cooked nearly all of our meals... I was simply not allowed to be a picky eater. The stranger it looked, the more I wanted to try it
2.gif
My friends really hated coming to our house for dinner because we never had the basic mac & cheese/spaghetti-o''s/hotdog meals, and my folks made them at least *try* whatever was on the table.

I babysit for picky eaters and it drives me BONKERS. Kids are so accustomed to salty, fatty, processed foods.

Baby food.

I don''t know why, but I really liked the sound of them fizzing in my mouth. I also used to sneak and get those bubble gum cigarettes. Talk about marketing to kids!

Chef Boyardee ravioli
Hostess cupcakes
popcorn and pepsi
Kraft Zesty Spaghetti Mix

wow, same here. my grandmother made the best stuffed cabbage i''ve ever had.

Our grandmother used to make Chocolate Crackles made with rice bubbles [Aussie's Fave] and Rice pudding made with cinnamon 'bark' lol.

Candy: Fun Dip, Ring Pops, those marshmallow ''ice cream'' cones, now & laters, laffy taffys, sugar daddys, candy cigarettes, warheads, big league gum, omg the list could go on and on! Mara, I loved Pop Rocks!

Food: Dad''s pork chops - deep fried, but delicious! Mom''s spaghetti, Andes Mints (my grandma had a bowl of them, always), crappy cafeteria pizza, tater tots, soft pretzels

Sorry for the double post, but I had googled for warheads (I couldn''t remember the name), and I stumbled across this pic, and had to post it. Who in the world would buy (and eat) this?!?!?

sour-candy-body-fluids-20090421-214643.jpg

Homemade tomato sauce, and tofu stir fry (what can I say, I had a somewhat unconventional upbringing when it comes to food
3.gif
)

My mom used to make this thing called: Egg in a cup. It was buttered bread broken up with a hard boiled egg in a cup. I totally forgot about it until I saw my sister making it for her son last year....total flashback.

The other thing is my mom''s homemade macaroni and cheese.
