I am in PR/Marketing. Right now it is marketing cause it was all I could do since I don''t speak the native language here. Before that I was in beauty/fashion PR and before that celebrity PR. Not as fun as it sounds.

I''ve changed roles a few times in the past six months (changed jobs, laid off, new job). I was a Development Editor for an educational publisher, then an Account Executive for a creative services company, and now I''m a Technical Writer/Editor for an engineering, environmental consulting, and construction firm. I''m on my third day at my new job.

I worked for the last 8 years or so as an interior designer for a retailer. I got laid off last year and with the economy, jobs like that are few and far between. I switched gears and now I work as a design/construction project manager (in healthcare, which is not so effected by the economy). I drive process now rather than do the physical design work, which is good as it makes me far more marketable in the long run.

I am the Midwest Director of a cosmetics company who h andles product imaging, distribution, education, promotions ect...

I am the Chicago Director for the division of artists that do bridal/print/television/theatre/fashion work reping our company. I interview, train, hire all the talent for our corporation that will work out of the Chicago office. Bridal was never an ambition of our company, and was my vision/baby.

I am a licensed cosmetologist who also has my educators license...so, on a very limited basis I will "sub" at several different cosmetology schools in our area...and run a MUA course at a local community college.

I also moonlight creating a MUA curriculum for one of the largest cosmetology schools in nation.

BigT--We''re on opposite paths--I went to law school before I became an educator. I quit after a semester, though, because I missed literature and knew I wanted to teach. How funny!

Maisie, you should definitely do it. My mother didn''t start college (undergrad) until she was 40, and she went to school part-time for 6 years to get her bachelor''s. Right after that, she got her Master''s in Social Work in 2 years, and started her career at age 48 after being a SAHM for 25 years. She is now 60 and loves her work, and is planning to work into her 70s because she loves her field. It''s never too late to learn what you love! I would also love to go back and get a Master''s or Ph.D. in the next few years now that I''m a SAHM myself. That way, when I''m ready to go back to work, I can work in a field I really love (no more law firms :p )

My office develops long range transportation plans with local governments for them to use as they grow and improve their road systems. It''s not the dream job of my life, but I''m a very technical and organized person, so I''m good at what we do. I''ve been here a while, and just recently became permanent, so I''m just thankful to have a job period right now. I was really stressing there for a while over what to do. We''re moving soon, so my commute will be kind of long, but I''ll deal.

I used to work summers during college with preschool children. I hated it some days, but those were just the stressful ones. I mostly loved it, and it was so rewarding. I aspire to be a SAHM when I start a family, and to get to work part time with children or animals. Those are my two true creative loves that I find rewarding. My job now is really just a job, but at least it''s not miserable. I do think I''d miss feeling like I had some technical conversations every now and then, but not in the long run. FI supports me 100% in my aspirations, but we just have to wait and see how our life goes for now though.

And it gives me some insight as to why some of you are knowledgeable about certain things. Right now, I'm contemplating becoming a pan handler. My friend says they make a lot of money, but I guess lately people have been hording their change! My sign would say, "Out of work. Need money for diamonds. Please help. Bless you!"

So now that the above profession is out, instead, soon I'm starting a job working in the medical field.

My dream job would be to open an in-home day care, but that'll have to be put off until we have a yard! I wouldn't make a lot of money, but working with kids is fun. Adults are a pain.

Maisie - going back to school after being a SAHM is so important. Not only will you get a heads up in a new skill, you will gain self-confidence AND learn to get back onto a schedual (that is if you''re not that way - I''m very laid back (procratinator and worry that a sudden shift to 9-5 will be overly difficult).

I work for a digital marketing firm analyzing marketing campaigns--I''m an analyst, so I have nothing to do with the creative part, I just figure out what''s working and what isn''t and how to improve the campaign based on the data. I really love my job, but think that I will be ready to take a break from my career and be a SAHM in about two years. I have given some thought to what I would like to do if/when I return to the workforce--I would be happy to return back to my current field, but I have also given considerable thought to opening my own dog-related business (likely a doggy daycare). I''m always thinking about what I want to do in "my next life" (which for me will be my life post-children, haha).
