I''ve been talking about it for some time now...

I had my father''s service on Friday, Nov. 6th, and it was fantastic. I''ve been trying to schedule the service with military honors. He was in the US Marine Corp. Let me tell you, the military honors was very short and simple, but so touching. After stepping out of my car (this is where the tears started to flow and never stopped), a Marine escorted just me to the seating area (I was the person receiving the flag). They performed a 21 gun salute - 7 marines shot their rifles three times in the air. Later in the ceremony, which only lasted ...about 10 minutes, the same Marine that escorted me stepped to the table with the American flag on it (they placed a small bundle of shiny rifle bullet shells inside the flag), then walked up to me, knelt down, handed me the flag, and said things about how honorable it was that my father was a Marine and about him serving our country... VERY emotional moment for me. My father is now in his peaceful resting place and I think he would be happy and proud he got his U.S. Marine Corp. military honors.

I also broke up with my bf the following night.

My life is a whirl wind!

Just wanted to share... I needed to let some of it out.

I hope all is well with everyone here!

Elegant, I''m so sorry to hear that you have lost your father. You must be very proud of him, and your description of his service is very moving. Please accept my condolences on your loss.

Sorry also to hear that you had a breakup. Sounds like a really tough few days for you. Hang in there.

What a weekend indeed! I hope it was cathartic... you seem resigned about the breakup and like it was a good choice. Long time coming?

Elegant- I''m sorry about your loss and want an honor to have your father serve this country, I''ve kept up with your other thread, and it seems that this is your chance to start fresh and live life again - congrats on breaking it off and moving forward with your life and to be happy now. Well wishes to you!

Oh Elegant I am so sorry about your father. Prayers outgoing for you at this time. Sounds like a beautiful ceremony and a wonderful way for him to be honored.

I''m so sorry to hear about your father, but it sounds like he had a great life and a beautiful funeral. Sorry to hear about the breakup as well, it must have been extra tough during a time like this. On the bright side, it can only get better from here, right? Sending good thoughts your way.

Wow, that sure was some weekend! I''m sorry to hear about your father, but I''m glad to hear the service was so well done. I''m sure it will be of great comfort to you over the coming months.

I''m sorry to hear about the breakup! I don''t know the situation but I hope it was the right decision for you and that things only get better from here. I broke up with my fiance just over a month ago, I know it''s a horrible time, but if it was the right thing to do you''ve got wonderful things coming to you.

Hey there!
Thanks everyone! I appreciate the support.
I''ve been contemplating the break up for some time now and was very open and upfront with him for years about my needs. He isn''t a bad person for not being able to meet those needs. I think I was just very tired of taking care of someone else for so long and I feel like I need someone who loves me, is affectionate, and will care for me as much as I care for him.
I feel lonely at times, but I have felt alone for years, like I told him. The break up - or his realization of it - was very odd. Too stupid and lame to go into detail, but I''m the bad guy now... I guess he had to make me out to be the bad guy in order to accept that I didn''t want to be with him.
I live with my sister and niece and that is making things easier.
THanks for the kind words.
