As a PSA to all the doggie-enthralled PSer's here's the schedule: :wavey:

NIGHT 1:
Monday, February 13
Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding Groups
8-9 p.m. (ET) live on USA Network
9-11 p.m. (ET) live on CNBC

NIGHT 2:
Tuesday, February 14
Sporting, Working and Terrier Groups, Best In Show
8-11 p.m. (ET) live on USA Network

Breed judging highlight videos are available throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday on the Westminster Web site. These highlights will be available after the show, as well.

To our West Coast viewers: Please note that the West Coast telecast is delayed for your time zone. Since results are posted to our Web site as they occur live, if you want to enjoy the drama of the moment, please avoid the Westminster Web site after 5 p.m. Pacific Time on each evening.

I know where I'm spending my next 2 evenings!

iLander, do you have a favorite group or breed? (Obviously your little pal in your avatar -- papillon?) For me, of course the Siberians, other Northern breeds -- and I love the working group in general. Boxers, dobies, etc., are so beautiful & muscular, powerful & graceful.

--- Laurie

Ooh, thanks for the heads up, can't wait to see all the toy breeds, especially the Chins!

Yes, the papillon, and also the Japanese Chin, since my littlest dog is a Chin. :appl: Chin are the easiest, most low-maintenance dog that I know of, aside from a stuffed dog. But Paps are very obedient, very velcro and smart. Mine winks for yes and closes both eyes for no. It's a little spooky . . .

I'm a little dog fan, as long as they're not the yappy breeds. I can appreciate the big breeds, though.

Do you have a Chin?!! I have a Chin!

I have two Chins and I adore them!! Would love to have a Papillon too. How old is your Chin?

I'd be watching the terriers (I have a 9 year old Airedale) and the sporting group (5 year old lab retreiver).

If you are in Canada, here's the TV times from the Westminster dog show website:

Schedule For Canada

Animal Planet LIVE (online also)
Discovery World Thursday and Friday Feb 16 and 17 at 8p
Discovery Channel Saturday and Sunday Feb 18 and 19 at noon

I'm excited to watch - I know a few of the dogs entered and am hoping one of them wins the breed! :appl:

Two! How great! Mine is 7 years old, and she's just a snuggle bug! What about yours? Boys, girls? Aren't they easy dogs? But mine seems to be having some kind of seizure problem lately (very minor, like shakey dizzy spells, last about a minute) and the vet said it was common in small dogs. Do yours have any issues?

We're going to need pictures! :appl:

Here's mine in the kitchen last night, with her ears back and her big smile on, hoping for a smidge of chicken.

Thanks for the heads up, iLander!

My favorite group to watch overall is the terrier group. In the toy group, my favorite is the havanese. So cute!

So I'm guessing the one I watched last night was last year's? Didn't even realize that....but now happy that I get to watch more tonight!

Do you think I can get my three furry children to sit still and watch with me? The youngest one is ten months old (we think), has a short attention span and WAY too much energy.

Thanks for reminding me!
My mutt is a Labrador retriever/Pitbull mix. I love watching the working and sporting dogs.
Newfoundlands are also a personal favorite. I hope to have one of my own at some point in the future (when I have more space!)

Was it last year the deerhound won best in show? I like the deerhounds and sight hounds too. Wonder if that same winner will compete this year.

Yep! Just watched it last night...thought it was this year's show. I believe they said it was that dog's retirement show.

Too late to edit my previous post, but I just found out my dog's sire is competing tomorrow! I know all the top dogs for the breed so it's unlikely he'll win, but it's still really fun! :cheeky:

Your little girl is so cute and she looks so tiny. I am sorry she is having trouble with seizures. My two are boys, 10 and 7 years old. The oldest has a heart murmur, which I think is pretty common for the breed. They are wonderful dogs and I would love to have a girl. Mine are both around 10 pounds. It is so great to find a fellow Chin owner.

I will attempt to attach Christmas photo.

I like watching the working and terrier groups too! Though I do like the Pharaoh and Ibizan hounds.
I'd love to see a dog show where they combine a ring competition and a field competition - judging form and function, I think that's a true test of a dog, to excel in both.

My own breed can't compete at the Westminster, they aren't recognized yet up here, but here's his Daddy:

http://www.gmitdegreeshow.com/

I wonder who will win?

It won't be a Siberian. Only 1 has won ever; both mine have him in their lines.

The Chins are adorable, girls! They look just like Foo Dogs -- were those ceramic dogs modeled on them? Caribari, congratulations on your baby's sire. Super. Maplefemme, be glad your breed -- fascinating dogs, btw -- isn't AKC recognized. Once they get into shows, breeding turns to What Wins, & bad stuff gets into the gene pool. It has sure happened to Siberians, and to any breed I can think of.

Anyway, will be fun to watch. I like the Herding group too.

love it!

I didn't recognize your dog as a Dogo from your avatar. So handsome! We had a (suspected) Dogo mix come into the shelter I volunteered at a couple of years ago. He was gorgeous, wish I could have snatched him up.

Couldn't agree with you more, JewelFreak. I have a large dogo group on Facebook and members keep asking how we can band together to bring the breed out of "rare breed group" were they are only judged at specialty shows, so they can be judged in the AKC and the CKC.
Myself and other members always put our foot down and say we won't support it.
We don't want them to be popular, it's the demise of any breed IMO, but I think it's only a matter of time before they will eventually be recognized. I often have a car full of punk kids pull over and ask me what he is, I tell them he's a mutt

The avatar stretched his head, lol, makes him look a bit pointy faced, not quite dogo-ish
I see them in shelters more and more these days, makes me sad. They really aren't for everyone and be a handful when they reach the 1 year mark if you don't lay a good foundation of compliance. They are sweet, but master manipulators, given the chance!

Chloe, is that your dog in your avatar? Gorgeous! Flyball?

Maple, that's my girl June! I got her from a shelter at 8 weeks old and she has been such a wonderful dog! The best mix of lab personality and pittie couch potato-ness, but she does love flyball! She runs 4.7 seconds, which is great for such a big silly girl.

Thanks for the heads' up, iLander. Enjoyed watching the nonsporting and herding breeds. Can't go wrong with that gorgeous dalmation and the handsome German shepherd.

Atta girl! The less popular & well-known a breed is, the better for it.

People often stop me & ask if my Siberians are wolf mixes. I explain carefully that they are ALL dog, back a thousand years; that's how old the breed is. And that wolf mixes are NOT pets, more like a tragic example of neither species. Oh no, they say, & go on to tell about the one they had. Worst part is there are lots of sleazy jerks who breed Siberians w/German Shepherd or similar breed & sell pups as wolf mixes -- buyers get the idea they are fabulous temperament-wise, when there's really no wolf in them at all. Many times they say how much they want a Siberian -- uninformed people think they're like retrievers in exotic bodies. Couldn't be less true! They end up in shelters constantly when owners realize how labor-intensive, determined, & manipulative they are, definitely not a breed for everyone. So I start talking about the cons of the breed first when anyone asks; better to discourage them before they wreck a dog.

Here's my 14-yr-old beloved, Buck. Edit -- Oops! Didn't realize that was such a big pic!

How adorable are they?! Awww so cute! Do yours get the "zoomies and spins", running all over and spinning around in circles? Mine will "defend" a throw rug with the cutest "toughness" you ever saw and my other dog will pretend to "attack" the rug. Do yours play together?
