So I''m getting all sappy watching the finale of the bachelorette (don''t worry, no spoilers here), but I found myself thinking about her dress/jewelry. While I think the dress was gorgeous and looked great on her (emphasized her tiny waist for sure!), it isn''t the kind of dress I would put on if I knew I was about to get proposed to on national tv. Of course, most of us non tv people don''t know when the proposal is coming.

So, what were you wearing when you were proposed to, and would you have chosen to wear that, something similar, or something dramatically different?

I was wearing a skirt that was one of my favorites at the time and a plain fitted t-shirt that I often wore with it. For some reason, on the day of my proposal, even though I had NO CLUE it was coming, I took my time getting ready at dressed up more than my usual summer attire of capris and tank tops. I''m glad that I did, but I''m also glad that I was wearing an outfit that was "me". I wouldn''t really change my outfit, except maybe the shirt, only because in the pictures we took immediately following, there is this little bit of skin peeking through because the shirt was a *bit* too short.

Hehe...well I don''t really care, but it wasn''t my most glamourous for sure. We were on a walk with my dog so I think I was wearing gym clothes and crocs. Not the sexiest outfit around for sure...

I had no idea that I was going to be proposed to and it was after we''d driven for a ridiculously long time (12 hrs perhaps?) to get to the beach, so I would definitely change what I was wearing! I had on a penn state sweatshirt (it was cold and rainy the whole way there), some type of t-shirt and probably soffe shorts. Yuck! Oh yeah, and no makeup.

Yes, I loved my proposal outfit. Those are my all time favorite PJs!

i was wearing my favorite green sweater and favorite jeans that i felt good in. we had just gotten back from a winter snow walk and were curled up reading on the couch so if i was in anything fancier it might have been a little strange! i had done my hair and makeup *just in case* (not because i expected it, but because i figured it had to be coming SOMETIME and was just always in go mode for like a week and a half). so i guess i was pretty happy with it!

Ha! No way! I was wearing cycling clothes!

It was at my birthday party bbq at my home... so I was dressed in jeans and a flowy summer tank... nothing special but I guess it could have been worse.. hehehe. Oh well - guess I will dress up for our engagement party!

We were out to dinner and I either had on a sweater and jeans or said sweater and houndstooth pants, but it mattered so little that I don''t recall now. So yes, I was happy with what I was wearing, I looked exactly like I normally do when we go out to eat.

Good question, Sabine! Like you, I happened to get cute on my engagement day too even though I thought my FI was on the other side of the country and I had no idea the proposal would happen that day! I wore a burgundy/purple shirt that my FI had gotten me the previous weekend from Anthropologie and brown pants and nicely blowdried my hair and fully did my makeup. Considering that a lot of the time when I''m shopping alone on a Saturday afternoon I don''t even bother to shower, that was a big accomplishment! So yeah, I was happy with what I wore. It was cute but casual and my FI liked that I had on the top he had just gotten me.

I was wearing my work clothes! A preppy shirt and tan slacks...blah!

By the way, I loved DeAnna''s dress tonight...perfect for the Bahamas and she looked amazing. It was better than all the typical evening gowns she''s gown every week.

I was wearing a dress my FI sent over with his bestfriend to pick me up

Oh my gosh BabyBlue.. how cute! I didn''t know guys still did stuff like that!! Well, mine came out of NOWHERE on Christmas Eve (he said it was supposed to be Christmas morning but he couldn''t wait) I had on a silly PINK victorias secret pj set with lips all over them!! And he video taped the whole thing! How did I not know you ask?! He wrote me a song and said he wanted to sing it to me as my gift (he is a musician).. so I didn''t think too too much of it! So, at the end of the song he gets down on one knee and sings "baby, i love you, baby i need you, baby will you marry me....''

ahh it was too sweet.

anyway yeah thats what i was wearing!!

Hah! Such a cute question! I was definitely in my bikini!! And since I don''t look like Giselle - I can''t say I was 100% happy with it, but my darling FI loves me no matter what and the beach was secluded and what I was wearing just didn''t matter at that moment.

Well a gorgeous dress with great hair and fabulous makeup would have been my 1st choice, but because I had no clue...yes! I was dressed head to toe in NFL Bengals "garb". Along with a GIANT tatoo on my cheek (a la bengal tiger) We had just gone to a Monday night football game...

We are HUGE fans, and he took me to a game for our first date. We spend our entire fall tailgating and going to games. So I guess it was truly fitting and so "us"!

Hahaha NOPE! It was hilarious - both me and my FI were dressed completely out of the ordinary. We were up at the cottage and he was wearing a grubby red tshirt with a baseball hat (he NEVER wears a hat!) and I had on a bathing suit with a cover up - hair not done, face looking grubby.

Seriously - it was awesome, but when I look at the pictures I playfully hit him and say " you could have at least done it when my hair was done or you weren''t wearing a hat!"

Neither of us look like we usually do, but we sure look happy!!!

Hmmm...Well, I''ll have to say no being that I was wearing maternity clothes!

We were going out to a fancy dinner, so I was wearing a drop-waist, salmon pink, jersey-type fabric dress with a few big rosettes on it. It is one of my favorite dresses, and I love the way it looks on me. I was so happy to be wearing it...except for a little stain by the left shoulder strap, which I''ve since learned can''t be removed =(. I will keep it forever regardless!

Hehe.... wellll, I was still mostly asleep and in my *ahem* sleeping skivvies, so I guess there wasn''t much there to be happy or disappointed about

But no, it never occurred to me to wish I''d been dressed or accessorized in a certain way.

I was wearing a black dress with red flowers on it and dress sandals. I liked the outfit. I kind of knew the proposal was coming thanks to my FIs sister in law who doesn''t know how to whisper. So I made sure that I dressed up for the occasion (plus it was our four year anniversary)

I''m very fond of my Snoopy pyjamas...

I proposed to him and can''t even remember what I was wearing - so no, I wouldn''t have worn something different.
I had just come back from a 9 hour flight from Miami and was flying out that night on a 13 hour flight to Singapore so I''m sure I didn''t look really charming, but he said yes, so I must have looked good enough!

Great thread, Sabine! I love reading everyone''s comments (especially Musey''s, LOL)!

I think in pjs would be my clothing of choice (and my pig slippers too, of course), but I shall have to wait and see how it unfolds...

Is it bad that it''s only been two weeks and I can''t remember? Obviously I''m not unhappy with my proposal clobber?!?

Ha! I had to go back and look at photos to even remember what I was wearing. Turns out it was jeans, a black top and a colorful scarf. The outfit wasn''t bad, but the fact that I''d had it on for about 36 hours at that point was kind of funny. My fiance flew us to France for the proposal (I thought we were going to visit friends in DC for the long weekend) and he had planned to propose over dinner on our first night after we''d had showers and dressed up. But, once we reached our room in the chateau where we were staying for the night, I started tearing up and saying how I couldn''t believe he''d planned this all for me, etc. He decided this was the right moment to propose so he spontaneously dropped to one knee (in a baseball cap and khakis) and asked me. So, we were definitely not in our finest attire or even clean! But honestly I really love that, even though he had planned the whole trip to a T, the proposal itself was spontaneous and totally done in the moment. So in that respect, my outfit was perfect!

Well, I had absolutely no idea it was coming, and almost changed into pjs when he proposed. I was wearing jeans and a plaid shirt (even though it was plaid, it was cute, with a peter pan collar). Very glamorous.

So I just asked FI. Apparently he was in jeans and a nice shirt. Well of course, because he knew it was coming! I, on the other hand, was in tatty old yoga pants, a big warm coat, and hiking boots. Yup, Ireland is that cold in June.

Oh wow..I just love that he planned all that out and then proposed spontaneously!

Oh gosh - that''s the part of our "engagement story" that I normally leave out....wow - this is embarrassing - but I''ll tell to entertain

FI had just taken me out for a really nice dinner - I was dressed nicely - loved my little outfit - HOWEVER - I ate a bit too much and stuffed my gut
20.gif
and had to open the button of my pants - wow....I''m so gross! LOL

So, we got back home, I plopped on the couch, opened my pants button...and FI immediately said "You''re gonna be sorry you did that" and immediately popped the question....

SO ladies, the moral of the story is - no matter how stuffed you are, DON''T unbutton your pants - you never know if the big question is going to follow....

hahaha I flew in on a redeye from california. went home showered, napped for two hours and then threw on the first pair of shorts and a tshirt I could find so I could go to a July 4th BBQ at my then fiance''s place. I was still tired from the trip and spent the whole day bbqing and just hanging out with friend when he proposed to me at night (in the foggy mist because we tried to go see fireworks in the pouring rain). My tshirt had a big muffin on it that said "Ah Munna Eat Choo!", I smelled like BBQ and I had huge bags under my eyes.

yeah i definitly wouldn''t say it was my most glam moment but I wouldn''t trade it for the world. :D

What''s funnier is that since my sister and brother in law knew that my husband had the ring, when he took me out to see the fireworks they commented "you don''t think he''s going to propose do you? it''s raining and she has that big muffin tshirt on..."

Is it weird that I have absolutely NO RECOLLECTION of what I was wearing?
