Anyone had/been a groomswoman? This is a good friend of my fiance''s from high school, whom I have not met (she lives out of state)

She volunteered to wear a tux, but we told her that a plain black dress of her choosing would be fine. We''re thinking to give her a corsage similar to the guys'' bouts =)

Any other thoughts/ideas?

My friend had a ''best woman''. He had a 20''s style wedding so the girls wore flapper dresses and she wore one too, hers was in black though like the guy''s tuxes whereas the other girls were in a different color (I forget which).

I like the idea of the corsage simliiar to the guys... My guys are in shades of blue ties in black tuxes and my girls are in shades of pink with my man of honor wearing a pink tie and a black tux. So I''d probably color match that way as well in your situation... hrm so if it were reversed I''d maybe have the best woman in the same dress as the bridesmaids but in blues or black/blue instead.

What color are your guys wearing for ties?

We''re doing our whole bridal party a little "differently." We each have a brother, FI has a sister, and my best friend is a guy sooooo. . . FI''s sister (in a bridesmaid dress) and FI''s brother (in a tux) will be standing on FI''s side and my brother and my "man of honor" (both in tuxes) will be on mine. . .

I saw no reason for all 3 guys to stand on the groom''s side, when he doesn''t really even know my brother and the MOH is MY friend and for HIS sister to be by me. . .

I don''t know about the tie color - I am thinking maybe blue or purple to match the bridesmaids dresses? I could always add a sash in that color to her dress as well...

I love the idea of a simple, classic black cocktail dress

That''s what all my girls wore - from J Crew, in silk, the Sophia, and they looked incredible. I think the groomswoman will look lovely.

I''d be a little careful with a sash though - try it out by holding it up against a similar dress or something first, because I think they can look a little bit "little girl at a party"-ish if not done carefully. Also, don''t know what the groomswoman looks like (figure, etc...), but a badly placed sash (or any sash at all really) can be a nightmare on the wrong body.

I was one for my bro (and he was my only attendant...my man of honor!) He just told me to buy whatever dress I wanted with the color scheme (which ended up not matching since they changed it on me but no one cared).

Ooh how fun! I love groomswomen! I tried to convince FI to ask one of his female friends but he didn''t bite. Oh well.

I think this sounds like a great idea. I''ve also seen some cool tux-inspired dresses (I''ll try to find pics), and I think a black dress with a matching element (sash, trim, hem) to the bridesmaids looks great, too.

How about the same dress as your bridal party - but in black?

That''s probably the easiest way to go... it worked well when my friend did it for his ''best woman''.

we have a groomswoman, too. she''s wearing a black cocktail dress, possibly with a sash in the same color as the bridesmaids dresses (she''s a size 00, so no body issues other than making me want to break her, haha). i haven''t even thought of how we''ll do her flowers...hmm...

I was one. There were 2 of us and 2 bridesmen (can''t remember if that''s what she called them). All of the girls wore the same dress (each in a different color) and we each carried the same bouquet.

That''s awesome!! I love people who aren''t afraid of departing from someone elses version of "tradition" and being uniquely themselves.

I am going to show my daughter this thread. I have always understood that even though some of the groomsmen were there as the brides brother, BFF, whatever, that they just took the "male" side of the formation while the BM''s would take the "girls" side.

I love this board. I just hope she wears whatever you all decide she is most comfortable wearing.
