We''re going to eat the last of our wedding cake tonight.

After we got married, I took the big hunk of leftover cake and cut it into slices, wrapped each one in press ''n seal and put them in a freezer bag. We ate a few pieces the first year and on our first anniversary. I don''t think we ate any after that. Our second anniversary was last week and I thought about the cake today. I pulled the last of it out (3 slices) and we''re going to eat it in a bit. I''m trying to not think about the fact that I''m going to be eating two year old cake and concentrating on the fact that it''s dark chocolate and has a really yummy butter cream on it.

So, this peaks my curiosity. How many people saved wedding cake and how long did it last before you ate it?

Ok, so I ate some. The cake has just the slightest taste of freezer burn to it. Didn''t ruin it by any stretch, but I''m glad we''re eating it now!

Here's a funny story for you: Friends of ours saved the top tier of their cake (wedding was 25+ years ago). Their plan was, on the 25th wedding anni, they'd celebrate by having the cake. So, 4 children later, 3 or 4 house moves, they retrieved the oh-so-carefully packaged cake from the freezer.

We're all at the party. Big anticipation because we're going to share in this cake, right?

Turns out it was cardboard!!!!!!

Apparently, when they packaged it up, there was so much packing in the box that it had a fair bit of "weight" to it.

We're all still laughing about it.

I''m glad it tasted fine. We didn''t move ours with us, so it was finished within one week of the wedding. Congratulations on your 2nd anniversary!

We had an entire "satellite" cake left over as well as the top layer. Dh''s parents froze both. Whenever we saw dh''s parents, we''d take home a chunk of the cake, but it was gone in about 5 months after the wedding. The top layer is still at their house being saved for our anniversary.

That''s kind of how ours got eaten all up: DH had been picking at it for a while before I realized it....so one weekend we just scarfed the whole thing down.....*burp*

A friend of our tripped and our top layer of the cake fell on the floor so we saved a slice of the cake from a different layer. On our one year anniversary we couldn''t bring ourselves to eat it so we still have it 11 years later including 3 moves. It takes up precious real estate in our small freezer (a side by side) but that''s ok. We won''t ever eat it though.

I caught DH eating pieces of ours too! Fortunately, we had a couple of freezer bags full and I caught him before it was gone!

He told me last night as he was eating his piece that he''d had some a few months ago! And here I thought he was cherishing the last remaining pieces and saving them with me for our anniversary....... There''s ONE last piece in the fridge right now. I''m contemplating whether or not I have to share it with him or if I can eat it before he gets home. And if I do eat it, will he even notice if I distract him with the brownies on the stove?

We ate ours with my family the next day. It was just after all those airline restrictions went down and I wasn''t even sure if they would let me travel with it. Plus I guess I am not that sentimental.

We eloped, so we didn''t have a traditional cake, but had dinner that night at ra estaurant/bakery and I pre-ordered a small cake for us. It was supposed to serve 4-6 so we took the leftovers home and ate the rest for breakfast before leaving for our honeymoon. We''re moving, so in a couple of weeks we are going back to the restaurant and have cake for the last time before we go! Yum!
