Okay, so I have a sort of odd experience with Spanx. Or something similar, I don''t know the actual brand name. I have the kind that goes from about mid-thigh to just under the bust. I''m hourglassed shaped, but I wanted to make my tummy look flatter in something I was wearing a while ago (I forgot what it was now!) and so I thought I''d give them a shot.

My issue is that I feel like it takes away my shape. Instead of making my tummy look flatter, I think it makes me look thick waisted. I guess almost as if though it smushes the "extra" from my tummy/hip area that I wanted to flatten out up into my waist, therefore making me look boxy.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Am I crazy? Is there some other style/suggestion to get rid of this problem? I don''t want to end up wearing Spanx on my wedding day and making my shape worse!

I wish I had your problem. I have no curves to speak of.

What does your dress look like? Can you wear a corset like garment with it? This will focus the support on your tummy and let your curves show. I think the Spanx might be smooshing your hips down so it ruins the hourglass look.

I kinda have the same problem but with my bott, if I wear nanna knickers my bott literally disappears

, however my tummy looks better.

The thing is with support knickers is that the pudge does not disappear it kind of gets flattened and rearranged to somewhere else: either up, down, sideways.

Some brands are better then others though in shaping maybe you might need to try another type.

You are soooooooo not crazy!!! That is why I hate those things. They have to push your hips and belly somewhere!!

I have a very tiny torso. I am not hour glass...but more like a mini skinny pear. It''s wierd. It''s like I have a separate person''s body on my upper half and another person''s on my bottom....although all limbs are crappy...ugh.

But the one thing I was blessed with was a tiny waist. But it is so out of proportion to my hips. When I wear spanx or a body shaper, it "straightens" my body out and I lose my tiny waist.

Besides that, they make me sweat like a pig, so I don''t wear them. I might...might...get a pair for my daughter''s wedding next month, but once I start dancing, it will probably be dropped in a nearby trashcan.

whew! glad I''m not the only one.

I actually don''t have a dress yet. It was kind of a general question. I bought the body shaper to wear with something else. Maybe for a Christmas party or something. Every time I try on a dress that I have at home with the spanx on I end up taking them off!

Thanks for the advice. I think I''ll probably end up wearing something more corset-y than spanx-y

This is the number one reason why you have to have your supportive undergarments on when you get your dress fitted/altered. Our tummies/hips/thighs/rolls don''t magically disappear when we don our spanx/control top pantyhose/corsets/girdles. It all just gets squished somewhere else.

I think this is very observant of you. Most people only focus on the part they want to minimize and dont always see that when one part looks smaller, somewhere else has to look bigger.
