Just got engaged a few weeks ago. We are considering a May 9, 2009 wedding - at first we wanted to stay away from the spring/summer b/c we live in the Southeast US (=HUMIDITY). We wanted a winter wedding (this coming winter) but that''s going to be nearly impossible. Our favorite time of year is fall, but we don''t want to wait that long till Fall 2009. So spring before it starts to get really hot here seemed like a good idea, which turned into May 9, a date we really like.

BUT May 10 is Mother''s Day, and May 6 is my birthday. I just wanted some opinions/advice from anyone who''s dealt with these situations - is that asking for trouble? Near my birthday wouldn''t be that big of a deal. But are flower prices going to skyrocket like they do around Valentine''s? Am I going to regret it one day when I have kids and my birthday, Mother''s Day, and my anniversary all fall within a few days of each other?

I can''t vouch for flower prices, but as someone who has a birthday right after Christmas, I always end up feeling kind of cheated, because people always make less of a big deal for my birthday than anyone else''s in my friends or family because it falls into a kind of post-Christmas gift-giving, partying hangover time I guess. So, while I loved the idea of a Christmas time wedding, I felt that having our anniversary, Christmas, my birthday, Valentine''s Day, then his birthday all within 6 or so weeks would be too much crammed together and things wouldn''t get the attention they deserve on their own. Maybe that is just my own personal selfishness though? We had a lot more flexibility when choosing a date though, so if that date fits best for you then maybe that outweights the closeness.

I would probably try to steer clear of Mother''s Day. Not only are prices going to be higher, but depending on who your florist is, they may be crazy busy trying to handle other orders for that weekend.

If you can, I would consider the weekend after or 1 or 2 weeks earlier.

We sepcifically picked our date (7/25/09), because there is nothing else around it, as far as celebrations. We like the idea of having things to look forward to all year round. The other thing that may have slipped your mind, is that May 6 is very close to graduation times. If you really think that it will bother you, then I would consider changing it.

Just an FYI, we are in Houston/Dallas, Texas and have decided to have a 6:30/7 o'clock ceremony in order to avoid some of the July summer heat/humidity.

We''re having ours the week before thanksgiving (11/14/09) but it will be nice in the future i think because we''ll be able to celebrate the beginning of our family and then spend time with other family members at thanksgiving and in the weeks leading up to thanksgiving :) the big concern in our family was whether or not it would be on the first day of hunting season

ugh luckily it wasnt lol

Ours was July 9 - right after July 4th and the day itself is my husband's birthday.

For wedding purposes, I wouldn't advise near Mother's Day. Prices will skyrocket, your florist and probably even your baker will be packed, and often times weddings near holidays get cheated on flowers. My flowers were beautiful, but some of them were bruised because the week the florist ordered them, it was a holiday weekend, so the flowers just sat around for three days before they were shipped.

I say the baker thing because our baker was just making conversation and mentioned he has to make a limit on the cakes during Mother's Day week because they get slammed with orders.

I wouldn't care about the birthday thing, myself, and my husband doesn't mind it, either - for him, it just means we'll do something cool for his birthday every year. (I considered having it the day after MY birthday.... April Fool's Day.

He didn't go for that one, though.)
