But it's tough to manage, lol!

This guy would scare the heck out of any potential burglars!!

He scared the sh*t out of me this morning (pardon my language)!! I came downstairs only to be greeted by this monitor lizard at the back of the house - but thankfully NOT inside the house!! He's about 1 metre long from his tongue to the end of his tail. I tried to take pics of him going from the back to the front of the house but only managed to capture these.

He was SCARY!!  I am soooooo glad that our cat is now practically indoors. I'd hate to think what he would've done to our beloved Pumpkin!!

Yikes!! I would be scared too! Never saw anything like that running around. What part of the world do you live in? Def a good burglar device. They'll run away!

HI:

Adorable! They are harmless--except to bugs etc, right? Rather have that guy then the 5 pound crows that inhabit our trees. 10 of them at once--now that is SCARY!

cheer--Sharon

Looks like he's doing a good through job on his rounds - be sure to tip him an extra cricket from time to time!

We live in Singapore. Actually, at our last house one even bigger than this came inside the yard, and he (DH) ran soooo fast! I'd never seen DH being that scared by anything or anyone before!

Posting a more close up pic.....check out the claws and that horrible tongue!! He reaaaalllly freaked me out!!

Are you sure? I googled it and it says that they are carnivorous . I'm thinking that monitor lizards may munch on little creatures like cats or maybe even one's feet or hands (God forbid!!).

5-pound crows?!! OMG!!

Lol!! NO WAY I am going anywhere near him!!

Wow! He *is* kinda scary - but sort of cool too! It would freak me out a bit to look out and see this guy - I'm in South Carolina right now and every now and then we see an alligator just hanging out

I am not too happy when I see little 5-6" lizards in our garage, so I can't quite imagine this one!

is he fast or slow? My hubby thinks lizards are cool but I think I would be scared to see that one. I think the little ones are cute!!!

5-6" ones are scary enough, let alone one this big!

Oh he was surpringly fast! I followed him around (all from the safety of the inside of the house, lol) and he went from the back to the front of the house in about a minute or two. Lucky (not sure if that's the right word to use, ha ha) I happened to have the camera handy so I snatched it and snapped snapped...

Lizards are sooooo NOT cute, lol.

He's fascinating! I like reptiles; they're beautiful. I'd probably thump a few extra heartbeats if I saw him in my backyard, though. And I'd give him plenty of room -- the Honolulu Zoo site says they get aggressive at the slightest provocation, can give stinging blows w/their tails; their claws are extremely sharp, and once they bite onto something, it's very hard to get them to let go. Some eat squirrels -- your cat would be a tempting item, sounds like. Yowza! I love how he just sashays around your pool & then decides to wander out the gate -- like he owns the place.

Thanks for the pics, Phoenix. I'm impressed you had the presence of mind to find a camera so quickly -- or did he stick around quite a while?

Ha ha, that's EXACTLY what I thought too.

He was really fast. Everything happened in a matter of a minute or two.

Wow, I think it's cool!

I doubt they chew them, so they must swallow them whole.

I'm on my way to Singapore too hunt for Monitor Lizard poop.

Phoenix, better count your diamonds.

Cute!!!!! I would keep my distance but he is adorable!
I love lizards though and I realize they are not everyone's cup of tea.
Thanks for sharing the pics!

I showed your photos to DH, Phoenix -- he likes lizards too. I only said, "Hey, look at this!" He peered over my shoulder, "Well, that's a cute little TINY one." Tiny? I said, "It's pretty huge." Then he spies the bottom pic. Oh my gawd! he says, "I thought it was an alligator!" LOL.

That is one hot security guard. Serious eye candy.

Wow.
The strangest thing we've ever had in our backyard is wild turkeys... I'm not sure what I'd think if I saw that!

Then again, I was daydreaming about having a rhinoceros iguana after seeing a youtube clip of one eating breakfast with his owners' kid, so...

I would be staying away from him, he looks scary.

I'd scream like a little girl!

 Haha. That's where our Lizard went. We haven't seen him for the last 2 1/2 years until two weeks ago. Saw him crawling around on a neighbor's land.

We had a Lizard who was a part time resident in our house when we moved in. He was coming up from the jungle, crawling under our deck and taking his morning swim in our pool. He would then spend some time basking in the sun on our deck! I was quite tempted to offer him a cocktail. :D

We also had a green tree snake get into our house when the tree loppers were doing their thing. We came home and found him in the middle of the house. Hubby was at work and we all ran screaming into the street. Luckily we had people working on the road outside and I was hysterical enough for one of them to come in and remove it from our house.

Send him down the street please. We need him to eat the last remaining rat squeaking around our garden at night.

Be careful. I think their saliva is highly toxic and can kill a man.
