view from a boat...

Just a woman sitting in the shade of her little family compound... this is one of the nicer houses in the country.

Did you know that the greatest percentage of billionaires live in china? That''s what I heard anyway... some people have crazy money. it''s absurd.

Last one for now.... a police station. This is kinda out in the country but well tended to. I was surprised it said it in english - not all of them around here do.

Sara - I love your scarecrow picture the most. Very neat to see the wind on the clothing and on the trees in the background. Love all your photos and hope you post more as you have time. I know re-sizing can be a pain . . .

Love your pictures. It''s a glimpse of a world so few of us get to see.
My husband used to travel to China and at times, some more isolated,
interior cities. The pictures he would return with were shocking to me
at the time. He hasn''t been in years and probably won''t ever go again.
I''d love to see more of your pictures - thanks for sharing.

These are great Sara!

Thanks so much, Sara. Great pictures

thank you :) I feel like I should only post pictures that are of interest to people, but to me the ones that are most fascinating are the ones where I just took pictures of very ordinary things... things that no one takes pictures of lol

I also love architectural details so a lot of pictures that are really boring to anyone who isn''t keen on those. Lots of doorknobs and windows and textures, especially in europe.

Awesome pictures!

i''m LOVING your pics esp the n korean ones! i''m a high school social studies teacher and we''ve been talking lately about n & s korea and the conflict as of late re: the s korean ship that was blown up by n korea.

i''m truly fascinated by your n korean pics. if you have more, i''d love to see ''em.

none of us will ever see faces from n korea except maybe the ones you took pics of

I do have a few more... some are about this clear and some are not as clear but I still find them charming... I will resize some tomorrow, my tomorrow... it''s almost bedtime here andit''s your morning so maybe your tomorrow night they''ll be up lol

Anita -- I agree, I''m fascinated by N. Korea. I can''t imagine being so closed off to the rest of the world.

This is one of my fav pics from n.k. It''s totally blurry but in a way that''s okay - I love it.

I have a question - do you guys generally prefer the macro or micro view? some pictures I have a hard time deciding. I intend to put them on smugmug so that they can be zoomed in and what not.

macro or micro - i like ''em both. no real preferences.

you''re such a talented photographer!

lookin'' forward to the next batch.

thanks again.

Here''s a pic of that bridge during the day... it''s not the same angle but you can see where the bridge drops off and is unfinished and you can see the fairly (in)famous ferris wheel that never seems to move... everything you couldn''t see in the pic above after dark.
Great pics Cehrabehra! I didn''t notice your thread until this morning, but I enjoyed it very much - very few people get to see N. Korea. The Dandong bridge in your photo isn''t really unfinished - we bombed the NK side of it during the Korean war. In your night shot, you can see the new, working bridge behind it. And I''m guessing that the guard on the Yula riverbank is more intent on searching for NK citizens trying to swim across the river, than a Chinese tourist boat. Keep the pics coming - I''d love to see more.

Sara,

Post all the pics you want. Any size! Really good stuff there.

Russia is on my "bucket list" as well.

Keep posting. These are all so interesting -- even (maybe especially) the ordinary things.

Ooh interesting! tell ME more!! haha - and yes not only is that working bridge behind it but we saw a train take a load of chinese tourists over (I have some pics of that) and it was really weird to see... I felt a mixture of watching people go off to a death camp or the wonka factory. eerie.

BTW I don''t know that I got any pics of it, I''ll have to look, but they have on the chinese side these floating bridge pieces that connect so that they can go across quickly if they need to. There are not many bridges that cross. I didn''t know that bridge was bombed - do you know anything about the ferris wheel/park over in nk?

Here's a few more, some I did macro and micro - you know you get home and you zoom in close and are surprised what you got lol These were all taken in a moving boat with just a lumix camera so they are what they are... wish they could have been better.

This is a little girl with I think a fishing net.

This is the full pic of the crop above... the boy on the right was throwing rocks... at us? I don''t know...

A man washing his hair - I saw a lot of bathing in the river... it seems to me that this means no running water... and the darkness at night seems to mean to me that there may be no electricity for local people, or that it has a curfew. I wonder if they tell the people they must have it dark at night for safety? You know on google maps you can see satellite images of n.korea but there are no maps available.

I don''t know if this guy can actually USE this boat... I didn''t see anyone out on anything and most boats looked rusted out. This one looks like wood though, hard to say.

cbnkmanboat.jpg

same pic as before but full image. I love how his white shirt reflects in the water lol Also like the kids on the far right and the woman in the field. Wonder if it's a family? The road above ran the whole distance, got a lot of shots of people on that road like the guy with the bike I posted earlier.

Thank you so much for sharing. Your pictures are fantastic, especially the one of the bridge at night. It really, really illustrates the hard line betwene North Korea and China, doesn''t it?

I''m not sure what this was, some sort of checkpoint albeit not a very formal one...

I have never been a fan of nk but when I was there looking at the people living I didn''t see struggles but almost in some ways an idyllic life set back in time. I am in no way defending their leader, but in some indescribable way there is a far less complicated old fashioned life there that a part of me envies... of course this is the same part of me that identifies with the unibomber lol Oh no, how am I sounding now? haha No worries, I''m a geekgirl thru and thru.
