Hey everyone,

So just to get a break from wedding planning, Fiance and I have decided to take a trip to Cuba at the end of the month.
Neither of is have ever been there, and the choices and reviews out there are over whelming.

So I figured I could count on a few PSer''s here to help me out.
Has anyone been to Cuba??

We are looking into either Varadero or Cayo Coco - and would like some suggestions, feedback, reviews on any of the resorts there.

Any guidance is appreciated :)

no idea which but i''ve always wanted to go to cuba.....but being a US citizen has made that rather difficult....not impossible but definitely difficult. look forward to hearing which you do and how you liked it.

Hi,

My niece and her boyfriend when several yrs ago. I don''t know where they stayed, but they loved it there. She is an English citizen and had no trouble getting a visa. As far as I know Americans, except if you have direct family there, still aren''t allowed to go. i may be wrong since I do know some changes have been enacted.
I am of the age, and from New York, when people went to Cuba on vacation as much as they went to Florida. Those were the Bugsy Seigal-Myer Lanksy days when they brought gambling casinos to Cuba. I had a friend who went often as her mother loved it. I am quite sure the glitz is gone but it has always been an interesting place. At one time we loved Castro. Things are always changing.

Report back! I, as well as MZ are interested. Have a wonderful vacation

I haven''t been (I live in the U.S., and understand it''s difficult/impossible for U.S. citizens to go).

I would really love to visit though, I am half Cuban. My mom and her parents left Cuba (for Puerto Rico) when she was 2 years old, and she''s never been back.

Hi EyeE,
We went to Cuba via Cancun before having kids, most hotels/resorts share the same beach in Cayo Coco, we stayed at the Melia, right next to Sol they share restaurants, clubs etc... I'm not a big fan of buffet style meals but it was OK, loved the shrimp tower and traditional BBQ for lunch, the best I've ever had! I'd avoid the Italian restaurant though. The Spa was also nice, funny, rooms with a balcony permitted fishing LOL
It's not for children so it was definitely quiet including the music. As what to do: Baga park is fun, inexpensive [I think we paid 10?] great chance to pet baby alligators, iguanas and turtles, they also had fresh coconut juice for us to try, TIP the trolley 'Nature Tour' to the same park is for children, we were the only adults there second time around, thanks to DH

LOL
Excursions: Media luna was great, it takes you to Pilar beach [w/amazing dunes] a great place to snorkle and relax on a catamaran.
Please, keep in mind-- this is Cuba we're talking about....the police is located where the tourists are. If you decide to go into the city make sure to use the trans avail from your resort, they are air conditioned, comfy and Safe! can't recall the line...something Azul. Once there, Morro & Fuerza Castle are a must visit
