Yes, I'm over 30, and I'm addicted to The Vampire Diaries on the CW! Does anyone else watch? I also love Supernatural and just discovered the old Firefly series on the Science Channel. I bought cupcakes today because new episodes of Vampire Diaries are finally starting tonight.

I'm with you... I heart Vampire Diaries!!! It's been a long 6 weeks and I'm pumped that it's back tonight! Can't wait to see what happens when Isobel comes into town... or Klaus... DH makes fun of me for being as giddy as a teeny bopper but I'm okay with that :cheeky:

Im almost ashamed to say, but I really liked the firefly show. I liked the idea, the acting was fine the writing was smart and sometimes sophisticated. There sere so many small details, all peripheral but the totality of them makes me think it was conscious from the start. Aspects of local and not so regional residual cultures long after they ceased to be still remained in the people of both the ship and the planets they visited. I am always attracted to opportunist thief anti-heros. Also the matter of factness around commercial/sexual themes and an implicit live and let live attitude...Sadly it seems none of the writers and production staff from Firefly are working with the lead on his current show Castle, which is dreadful and imbecilic. Right now Im liking Haven, which does have a writer/producer from Firefly, Jose Molina.
Im ascared of vampires.

Who the bleep is Isobel?!

I LOVED the books. LOOOOOVED.

Then I watched the TV show. Between the fact that they totally made it into a teen drama instead of a triangular romance that just happened to star vampire brothers....well they lost me. And then they got rid of characters and deviated from the story! Which is SO SAD! Perhaps I'll watch again someday after its all over...

My husband loved Firefly. Too bad it was so short...

Panda, my husband teases me mercilessly about my excitement over Vampire Diaries! BUT I noticed tonight that he checked to make sure TiVo still had it listed in the season pass manager. And guess who??? was sitting on the couch next to me watching it?

VapidLapid, I think Firefly's storyline is sheer brilliance. It's such an interesting combination of genres; who would have thought Old West meets Star Trek? My husband was the one who turned me on to Firefly; he had watched it when it debuted a few years ago. The way The Science Channel promoted it, he thought they had renewed the series, so he was let down when he realized it was just the old season being re-aired on a different channel. It's brand new to me, and I'm loving it! I watch V, and I got a kick out of seeing the actress who plays Anna on V with long hair on Firefly.

I haven't watched Castle, but from what you say, it doesn't sound like I'm missing much. I will have to check out Haven!

I loved the books, too! The tv series veered from the books' storyline pretty darn quickly, I must say.

After falling in love with Firefly, I can't believe that the series didn't make it. It's one of my all-time favorites.

Hi, DF! :wavey: I'm back; it's been an eventful couple of years. Thank you for the welcome!

I REALLY like Supernatural. At first, thought it was kind of silly, but when you get into it, it's neat. Well done, plots are actually sort of intelligent. All the contracts are up this year so it may not continue.

I absolutely ADORE firefly. And the movie Serenity. I really wish they had made enough money to make one more movie or a mini series or something - it just doesn't feel like they told all the stories there were to tell. I watch any of them anytime they are on, no matter how many times I've seen them!

I started watching Vampire Diaries but kind of lost interest at the end of the last season. I'll catch an episode every once in a while but I don't have it on the DVR anymore. I do have to say that Ian does SUCH a better job on this show than he did on Lost, he was born to play a tortured sorta bad dude with an almost heart of gold.

I'm with you, mrs jam!!! FI is the one who introduced me to it, and I refuse to watch the last episode (we've been streaming it on Netflix) because that means it's over! There's also a movie called "Serenity", though, which I have yet to see. I think Joss Whedon was just ahead of his time with Firefly. Hopefully if it's getting good ratings on cable, they'll look at bringing it back!

Serenity is good!! It's a little darker than some of the episodes but still amazing.

I've heard that all of the original actors always say "Heck Yeah!" whenever they are asked if they would come back if the show started back up. Nathan has even said that if he ever wins the lottery that he would buy the rights and start it back up as webisodes (this of course launched an online campaign to raise enough money so that Nathan could in fact do this without the lottery, even though I'm sure he was just kidding)

The show was definitely ahead of its time -- plus it was on Fox which meant that Fox created all the ads and promos for the show and they had no clue what they were doing -- the ads focused on the western / campy parts exclusively and I don't think anyone understood what the show actually was -- then there was the moving time slots (I think it switched days twice and switched showtime a couple of times too) added to that -- Fox decided to air the shows OUT OF ORDER. :nono:

Firefly is one of my favorite shows, but I never watched it while it was originally on the air for this reason! I thought the show looked stupid. When friends told me about the series, I resisted watching it because I remembered the lame western theme of the adds. I finally agreed to watch it and love it!

Funny story: I was at a software conference when DH and I were just casual friends, not dating or anything. We were enjoying each other's company and wanted some time alone so we tried to sneak out. We were caught at the door and people wanted to know where we were going (they looked suspicious). I said "B's never seen Firefly! Can you believe it? I'm going to go show it to him." Instead of getting funny looks, the software people started suggesting episodes to show him and offered cables to hook the laptop to the TV in the hotel room.

Firefly - I'm a HUGE sci-fi geek. HUGE. Firefly was one of the best series of the genre ever. I fell in love when I first saw the Serenity make its escape from the Reavers at the beginning of Train Job (I think?) and there's no sound in space. It just felt like a perfect moment. I think Fox Network didn't get Firefly (I remember reading a Joss Wheadon interview where he said they were pretty much "WTF space cowboys?" when they saw the pilot) and deliberately screwed up to have a excuse to pull it off the air. It's really sad. To loosely quote a genre actor interview I saw recently, it was one of those stories that was amazing because Wheadon wrote it because he had to, not to make money. It's nice that being a nerd is "cool" now, but all these Marvel comic blockbuster movies (for example) we're being bombarded with are not exactly masterpieces...

Vampie diairies - I watched the first season, but I lost interest. I think I'm suffering of accute vampire overdose, lol.

Supernatural - I stopped working when I was pregnant because of health issues and a local sci-fi station started bradcasting it from the pilot episode every morning until they caught up to the current season. I think I watched the first 3 or 4 seasons like this. When my son was born, I watched a lot of TV while nursing, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted when I wanted. I managed to catch a 4AM rerun of the season 5 finale though. I enjoyed the first seasons. It got increasingly gory with time and I thought it was unnecessary. I wasn't a big fan of the season 5 story arc and was so disappointed with the finale (I was so sure they were really going to have a Dean/Michael vs. Sam/Lucifer showdown and one of them was going to die) that I haven't bothered with season 6. Again, that's what happens when it becomes too popular and the writers cave to fan pressure.

Sci-fi geek here too. Love Supernatural (was dissapointed in last season's finale too, and this season... well, it's not the same, but there isn't a lot on so we're watching). Watch Vampire Diaries (I'm OD'd on vampires though too, I'd have stopped watching if it wasn't for hubby). Used to watch Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Stargate SG1.

:wavey:

My husband told me that if he remembers correctly, there were only 8 or so episodes of Firefly, plus the movie Serenity. I wonder if Science Channel will air Serenity as well. Watching episodes on Sunday are a tad bittersweet for me, as it means I'm one episode closer to the end!

I'm a little embarrassed by how excited I am by my "good tv" nights, but we've tightened our entertainment budget while I'm finishing my grad coursework full-time, so I'm easily and cheaply entertained these days. That would be amazingly wonderful if they brought Firefly back for another go!

mrs jam - There were 14 episodes, I think two were not aired. The series DVDs are really worth buying, they have the unaired eps on them.

gypsy - I loved SG1! the spinoffs are nowhere near as good.

Loved Firefly, Serenity and all things Joss Whedon! Buffyisms used frequently in our house.
