I went to a friend's birthday party last night. Didn't really have that much to drink. Started drinking at 9, stopped a little after midnight and was completely fine to drive home at 3am. Despite not going over board, I feel horrible! I don't get it. When I was underage and partied I rarely got hangovers. Now that I am in my 20's it seems like anything more than 2-3 cocktails and I feel like crap the next day!

I don't really get hangover headaches, but I often have a rapid pulse, dizziness and queasy/sour stomach the entire day afterwards. I am trying to figure out if it's maybe *what* I drink that is to blame. I always stick to vodka but usually mix it with something sweet (last night I had vodka mixed with club soda and juice). White wine doesn't make me feel as bad but I don't always feel like drinking wine.

I wish I was one of those people that could get a buzz off of 2 drinks and just call it quits, but unfortunately I have a high tolerance, and my stomach doesn't.

Advice/thoughts? Anyone have a drink that they like that's easy on the stomach?

Also, What are your tricks for the next day when you feel queasy and everything sounds gross?

Ginger ale. It''ll either soothe your stomach or make you vomit, either one will help the queasy feeling stop.

You are probably just dehydrated when you wake up. Try drinking water or gatorade before you go to bed. HTH

A big Irish Fry always goes down well with a hangover. I hardly drink at all anymore as it always makes me feel sick so I''m a lightweight when I''m out and am normally tipsy on one. Hope you feel better soon!

Bee* brings up a great point. Greasy, preferably fried food helps a ton. I love a good pork barbecue sandwich with hush puppies for a hangover Mmmmmmm.....the grease and the fried goodness always helps soothe my stomach.

We had a similar conversation on our recent trip with friends. Something came up about sugar in the drinks, less sweet is better? Also there is something to the whole aging thing. All us 40-somethings say it everytime we have a get together. We all get up later, are little slower and do not recover like we used to. lol kind of sad.

A great little pocket remedy I use is from a company called Sprayology. It''s a homeopathic spray (FDA approved) organic too, sprayed under the tongue. It''s called Party Relief, and it works!!! You just have to remember to use it. A few sprays before, during and after a night of drinks really lessens the misery the next day. I use several of their products and really like them, have used them since they first came out in 2001 or so.

Dehydration is a huge part of a hangover. LOTS of water, and greasy food (not drenched though), if you can stomach it. Then some pain reliever.

And I hate to tell ya, but if you think it''s bad now, it doesn''t get any better the older you get. lol Not that I would know or anything....

In my personal experience, vodka has always caused the worst hangovers! I also have really good liquor tolerance (I''m Irish-Italian, so I blame my genes, haha), and my social circle tends to drink at gatherings. For me, my standby is typically Captain and coke. Something about the carbonation just makes it sit better for me than drinks mixed with juices or other mixers. As for remedies, I agree completely on the greasy food! Dehydration is definitely the big issue with drinking too much, but I''ve found that attempting to hydrate myself prior to eating generally makes me feel drunk and yucky all over again. I also try to alternate my alcoholic beverages with water while I''m drinking so that I''m less likely to get so dehydrated in the first place. Good grief, I sound like a boozing coach or something!

I''m only 25 and my ability to party like I used to has already dwindled greatly, though--don''t even wanna think about 40+!!!

Makes sense to me. My hangover cure-all is Waffle House!

I have a very high tolerance to alcohol, except Amaretto Sours, which sadly are my favorite. They give me cold shakes for hours after I drink more than one. But anything else and I can drink for hours without a single headache or sour stomach. My tolerance is better than my husbands, which is pretty freaking hilarious. The only thing I get at all is a touch of sensitivity to my eyes.

I will say though, that if I drink water and/or eat during the night as I drink, I feel a LOT better the next day.

To avoid hangovers, I try not to have mixed drinks with sugar in them. Vodka and club soda with lemon or something like that. If I do feel sick the next morning, I try to have a turkey sandwich and Vitamin water. It''s been working for me.

Hope you feel better today.

I felt pretty much fine by 5pm yesterday. Thanks everyone for your tips! I think for the most part I am just going to have to accept that I have a sensitive stomach.

Drinking beer instead of wine or liquor is the only way I avoid hangovers. Luckily for me I prefer it anyway. I have to drink a LOT of beers to truly feel bad the next day, and in that case I just try to drink some water (propel water if it''s available) and take an advil before going to bed. In the morning if I still feel bad I just force myself to eat a big meal and I feel better almost immediately.
