USPS food drive today (Saturday)

Don''t forget to leave your nonperishable food items out for your mail carrier today. All the food goes to local food banks immediately for use over the summer season.

Stocks are understanably low at many food banks, and in some families, the only dependable meal is the free school lunch - which is not offered in the summer.

So, leave those canned goods, etc. by your mailbox! If your mail carrier has already come, you can drop them off at the nearest post office

My mail carrier just came and picked up my cans. She left two free car wash postcards for me to thank me for donating.

That was unexpected and nice.

I can''t imagine making my postal carrier haul around canned goods. It seems unfair to burden them. Can''t we just take food donations to the post office?
