PS does make us all a little crazy. I went with the round because I wanted maximum sparkle but I do love a cushion as well. It would bug me too that it doesn''t
face up as big as it''s weight. Why did Leon say the setting would be unusable again. It seems that your stone could carefully be remove and replaced with a colored
gem. I know it''s got a fair bit of pave but don''t you think the prongs could be lifted and the stone slipped out?

I don''t think it was a huge screw up because it is still a gorgeous ring. Even at three carats that is still a great size, but I do get it. It looks fabulous on you as well.

Oh bebe whenever I read your posts about your ring, my heart aches for you! I would feel the same way... not about your ring, it is stunning, but if I somehow felt I had made a mistake on a big purchase, egads it would be a toughie for me. When you feel like looking into it, I would not be surprised is something could be firgured out with Mark. Their upgrade policy surely was meant for smaller monetary amounts, and it would seem absurd to hold a larger pruchase to the same standard. f I have a 1ct diamond and spend 5k to upgrade, why should you have to spend more? sighhh... I do think if you are not happy then it is worth spending a little more to make it right. The money spent that is regretted is wasted, and if a bit more invested can make you love the whole thing, then it is worth it IMO.

my thoughts exactly! I haven''t called Mark about this - simply not sure what I would do if given the chance to change it. Keep the setting if possible and get a larger cushion - or - get a large RB and then have added costs of a new setting. UGH !

A colored stone could be cut to fit your current setting exactly and would look amazing! Like the tourmaline currently on display in SMTR.

Yes, I even discussed this with Leon as we were designing the current setting !! He said it was highly unlikely I''d find a stone to fit the setting, but as you pointed out, I could have one cut to fit it.
11.gif

bebe, why not halo your cushion?
12.gif
You would get the extra sparkle of the round brilliant melee surrounding your cushion. And the size would look massive!! There'd be no shrinkage with 4 carats in a halo, that's for sure!

I just got my ering last month...still perfect for me as I choose it (FI did a marvelous job choosing the stone!). I have a Tacori 2620 with a 2ct Asscher. I can see myself wanting to upgrade the stone in 5 years or so...especially if I keep hanging around here!! Anyway, I am wondering from those of you who have been thru the upgrade process, did you keep your setting? My issue, if you can call it one, since we are talking 5+ years from now is that my setting was really expensive, ~5k. A larger stone won''t fit in it and I can''t stomach just not using such an expensive setting, even more though is the sentimental value I already have placed in it.

Thoughts? Any experience anything similiar?

GirlyGirl~

You could always replace your diamond with a beautiful colored stone. Then, you get the best of both worlds! However, I love
30.gif
your ring. It would be very difficult to change it!

That is an option, but I think the sentinmental value would be a bit much to part with it as an ering. I think the best of both worlds would be if Tacori could rework it/recast it...for a fee of course. For now I am just going to continue being in love with it just the way it is!

Hi, my name is Erica and I''m a serial ring-changer
9.gif

Actually, after 4 previous rings/upgrades in the past 2-3 years I think I''ve finally found THE ONE - 5th time''s the charm! Well, for now at least
11.gif
And it''s technically a downsize from the previous ring - go figure!

I love my asscher as much today as I did the moment I laid eyes on it. No shrinkage, feels just perfect every time I look at it.

I have never been very emotionally attached to a piece before, but I''m very attached to this one and can''t imagine parting with it.

Erica can you start a thread and show us all 5 of your previous rings and describe how you came to change them? I would love the eye candy and I am sure it would be interesting to others too!

I second dreamer''s suggestion! I''d love to see all of Erica''s beauties in one place!!!

Three times is definitely a charm for me.

My first e-ring was a RB 2.57 H SI2, but it was poorly cut and the black carbon inclusions bothered me. This was prior to PS, when all I cared about was size. So I had it recut to a 2.35 and I even had it clarity enhanced. It looked better, had slighter better brilliance. Unfortunately, it''s strong blue fluoro also gave it a hazy look in sunlight. And everytime I looked at my stone with a loupe, it simply was not clean enough.

Although I will always love my H since it''s my first e-ring, I grew bored with the color. I wanted something more unique and spicy. I wanted color! My first upgrade was earlier this year with a 2.56 Peachy Gray SI2 Cleftless Heart. This stone is still included, but they are white crystals and small feathers. And the color of the stone helped mask them. I loved the orangy pink hue of this stone, especially in sunlight (due to its orange fluoro). The color also shifts from champagne to lemony to gray to salmon depending on the lighting. I thought this was my forever stone. I even named her Peachy Precious! But once the honeymoon was over, I realized that she was not quite the 3 ct size that I always dreamed of. I also missed the brilliance and fire of well-cut RB''s. Heart shapes still sparkle, but this particular one didn''t have the WOW factor I was looking for.

After much soul and bling searching, I finally realized and admitted to myself that I never really fell in love with these stones. They may be perfect for some people, but they are lacking some things that I want. And I will never be happy until I have the ring that I''ve always dreamed of.

My dream stone:
1) At least 3 cts
2) At least 9 mm
3) Colored
4) Well-cut with good fire (I prefer fire over brilliance)
5) Eye-clean
6) Round

I shared my dream stone requirements with my husband. He really thought I was crazy that I wasn''t happy with Peachy. He loves Peachy! He also thinks I''m never going to be happy. He thinks my sickness will turn into a 5 ct obsession even if I get the 3 ct upgrade.
11.gif

He asked, "Are you really going to be happy with this new diamond? Because this is it."

After much searching, I found the diamond of my dreams. Her name is Olive. She''s a 3.17 SI1 Grayish Yellowish Green RB. She measures 9.21 mm. She''s eye clean and even with a loupe, I can''t find the inclusion right away. She''s also very well-cut, with lots of fire. She also has yellow fluoro! She goes from champagne, cape, yellowish, blue-green, forest green, gray to olive in different lighting. Gosh, I need to stop gushing over her. Hahaa...

Since I have my dream diamond, she deserves a dream setting. It''s going to be custom-made with a matching band.

This time, I''m going with a recommended PS vendor and do it right.

That''s exactly how I feel about my new stone. If this was the only piece of jewelry I was allowed to own, I''d be happy and okay.

Your asscher ring is gorgeous by the way! I don''t blame you for falling on love with it one bit.

Is it the ring I sometimes dream about, if we lived in a perfect world and I had hundreds of thousands to throw away?

No - the centre of that is a full carat larger, colourless, and inclusion-free
11.gif

Is it the perfect ring for me and my lifestyle, is it the absolute best I could have in real life, with things like budgets and other priorities, and is it a ring that makes me smile every time I look at it?

Without a doubt.

I can't say that I'll never upgrade again - tastes change, priorities change... but for now, and for the forseeable future, I'm thrilled

. It's a fantastic feeling to look at your ring and know there's nothing you would change

bebe - I hope your talks work out

There are always regrets, but its so much easier to pass them over when you're looking at exactly what you want - I do hope you get the ring of your dreams soon!!

Dreamer, what would your dream stone be? What does it look like? It may be more attainable than you think.

Luckily for me, I prefer colored diamonds. Colorless and near-colorless diamonds can be pricey. And I don't mind modifying colors like yellow, gray or brown (though undesirable to a lot of people). This actually gave me a lot of room within my budget.

I know there are many differing views on the concept of upgrading an engagement rings, and many different reasons for doing so. But I''m wondering how many of you feel you have finally reached the goal of the ''perfect ring?''
Goal reached! I can honestly say that I''ve got the set that I''ve always dreamed of. To me, it''s ''perfect'' in every way because I love the craftsmen I worked with - there''s not a flaw anywhere on the set - not on the stones nor the setting, even under a loupe! If there were, THEN I would probably want to upgrade at some point...

Although I love to drool over larger stones, I wouldn''t feel comfortable or safe wearing a larger one. I live in an urban area so the one I wear now is a bit to blingtastic and I keep gloves on most of the time

I totally get where you''re coming from. I like in the UK where my ering is 4 times the average size, so that makes it pretty blingtastic, but that wouldn''t put me off upgrading

Bebe, I love your ring. really REALLY

it.

That being said if you aren''t happy with it, it sounds like having a colored gemstone cut to fit your setting and then either haloing your cushion or seeing if Mark can work out a trade with you for a round brilliant that you love might be a great solution.

Bella, I think a slightly larger center stone would solve the issues I have with the ring. Or at least a stone
that looks it''s size. Whatever I end up doing, I want that "OMG, this is it". I''ve never had that with my
current ring.

I hear you! If it''s any consolation, I have the "OMG that''s it" moment when I look at your ring

Gah ... I shouldn''t take it personally but it bothers me so much when people say this. Bebe, IIRC your stone *does* look like (and face up like) a 4ct cushion. Four carat cushions face up smaller than four carat rounds do. I have a 1.5 ct asscher that faces up like a .70ish round ... but it does "look its size" -- it looks the size of most 1.5 ct asschers! Its an error of expectation to assume that all stones will face up comparably to any one other shaped stone. Eh, back to the previously scheduled programming.

Well, I am being bad about hijacking this thread, so I won''t go on and on, but I am not totally sure. I tried on a 2ct diamond and felt that "This is it" feeling, and I felt really good about the three-stone I tried too. A 2ct is out because I am not comfortable spending what it costs for a G color that size, maybe for a 15th or 20th anniversary, but not until kids are grown and debt is gone etc. The three stone is possible though, which is why I am thinking about it. I am really really loving the color of my new diamond, so I think I have one thing right.

I think Admin took it down. I have emailed them to find out why. Since I posted it upon request, I thought it would be ok, but am waiting for an explanation. Typically vendors are prohibited from posting personal stuff, but I had been told in the past that it''s ok to do so if specifically asked by another member (like with my asscher thread). I''m stumped
