I''m looking for an unilkely reception venue in San Diego, for the fall. I''m still undecided aobut having the actual ceremony on the beach but given that the weather is great (even not too chilly for a late afternoon beach gathering) it''s a possibility. As far as the reception, I need an idea for something less typical. I''m not interested in hotels/resorts, restaurants or halls. I''m more interested in the actual building, itself; maybe it''s got histoircal significance or an usual layout or a great view...any ideas? I love brick and stone. PLEASE HELP! ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

What about an antique boat that takes you on a harbor cruise, like one of the Hornblower yachts? SanDiegoLady had her wedding on one of them. Talk about a great view!Hornblower Yachts

You know what? I thought about something on the Hornblower but had second thoughts only because there will be a few elderly guests and a friend in a wheelchair; I don''t want to make anyone uneasy. Know of any mission style or adobe buidlings that might be fun?

Have you considered using a building on UCSD? I wonder if you would be able to use the library and the plaza surrounding it. At my school, there were many nice building where events could take place. How about the zoo?

I think this is a great idea (this is what we are doing! :). We are having our ceremony and reception at a wildflower center. I did just want to point out something that I wasn''t totally aware of when I first started planning. The major drawback of a "different" type of venue (i.e. not a hotel/restaurant/hall) is that you may have to pay to bring in everything yourselves. Chair rentals add up surprisingly fast! (Not to mention, plates...forks....etc.) A few close friends are also planning their weddings and our budget had to be significantly higher to cover these additional expenses you may not have at a hotel/restaurant. I realized this when we booked the venue, but I didn''t really "get" it until we actually did the rentals if that makes sense. I''m not trying to discourage you at all - I''m definitely still happy with our choice, just wanted to share our experience.

Brick... stone... historical significance... unusual layout... it depends on the type of fete you are hoping to have, but have you checked out the presidential suite (with that fantastic balcony) at the US Grant downtown?
