I''m taking my flower girl dress that I wore in my parents'' wedding and creating hankies and bouquet wraps with the material. I plan to have the pieces monogrammed with a sentimental message for my father and mother. I''m also using it as my something old and placing a patch with my late grandmother''s favorite flower (a daisy) and the date monogrammed in my dress.
The very first gift I had ever given my mom was a mother''s ring. It was right after I had first started working and I think I paid $60 for it which was about 90% of my paycheck LOL.
I decided I would get her an updated ring. It should be lovely. Her stone is a diamond, mine is garnet, and my brothers are an aquamarine and alexandrite.
I got my mom an orchid. She would have been mad if we had spent too much on her and she works at a jewelry store, so that was out. She loves phaleanopsis (sp) orchids but most of hers are white or fairly plain. I searched through literally hundreds of orchids online until I found one I thought was perfect, it looks like a sunset and I have never seen one like it.
I got my dad a book he hadn''t read. Sounds silly, but he reads so much, finding a history book about someone Irish he hadn''t read is a Herculean task.
I am giving my Mom this Pea in a Pod necklace. We are very close, and I have wanted to give this to her for awhile. The gold that she normally wears is out of my budget range, but I can''t wait to see her face when she opens the box!
We gave my parents a vacation to the destination of their choice. They insisted on paying for our wedding, and as we''re a bit older and had the means to do so ourselves, it''s the least we can do.
Our engagement photos have made them seriously consider going to St. John this winter, but they also want to do an Alaskan cruise (NOT during the winter) so we''ll see what they decide.
