Let''s post the nicest diamond/gem item you can find for under $1000.

:)

What a great idea for a thread! I''m going to start looking right away.

In the meantime...(and I don''t know if anything could be had for under one thou)...If I were looking for a less expensive diamond Ering, I''d probably go with an E/W mounted marquise...like the beauty MAchick recently posted. Those marquise''s cover a lot of finger real estate for the carat weight, and are so classy and unusual mounted east/west!

....off to "shop"

I did a little "one stop shopping" at Mel''s Antiques...sorry the pics are so small. (With my S L O W computer, I was too lazy to wait for bigger pictures to come up.)

Three RHRs: (pearl, kunzite, sapphire)

...here are two pairs of earrings, and one pendant...all authentic, "of the period" antiques. (those are real sapphires in the victorian earrings for only $295!!!)

Widget,
I thought those sapphires were lab created? I remember ogling those and being so tempted by the colour, then my heart sank when I read that they were lab-made, which explained the price.

No paramaters, just stuff that you like! :)

Thanks, Chrono....I guess I missed the fine print...

I should have known...those stones are much too nice to be offered at that price!

(One consolation, though....lab created stones in antiques are more PC than in contemporary pieces...

in houston texas pawnshop dairy ashford at westheimer marquise about 1/2 carat maybe little more D vs estimated

so white it''s blue. he wants 800 for it.

Can I post some rings I own?

My black opal.

My retroengagment ring, an 18th century love token, a pair of love birds painted on ivory under glass that my husband recently gave me because he never gave me an engagement ring.

My tsavorite, in an antique platinum setting from ebay.

Two of the first rings I ever bought for myself, a victorian amethyst and a victorian opal

All of those cost less than $1000--some very, very much less. I do a lot of shopping on ebay, at flea markets, etc.

Here's another well-under-$1000 ring I bought on ebay a couple years ago. Platinum, diamonds, & a pearl. My husband recoils with horror whenever I wear it.

For DIAMOND jewelry on a limited budget, I''d go to DBL...

Here''s a sampling: .57ct princess ring and a 1ctw band, each under $1000. And for those who''d like a "starter asscher", a .25ct pendant for $500!

Widget, I love that asscher pendant!

....and back to my first love, colored gemstones, I found lots of neat affordable jewelry at www.acstones.com. I just wish they had more stuff in white gold.

Here are three pairs of earring that I like: dia/tanzanite $450; boulder opal hearts $240; and (my fave

) spinel studs with rhodocrosite jackets $230!
