The office where my husband works is closing. We''re pretty bummed, mostly worried about things like medical insurance though. My husband has a lot of experience in his field so we''re hoping he''ll find something within a few months. Am I being too optimistic?

I''m sorry to hear that! Could he be relocated to another office or is it the company itself that''s closing? You never know what could happen! What line of work is he in? Best wishes!

Thanks :) He''s a civil engineer and works as a project manager. The company almost relocated him temporarily to Texas but then they gave the spots to some of the Arizona people instead. The San Francisco company ( which is where he works ) was actually a small family run company when my husband first started working for them but was bought out by a much larger one a few years ago. I''m not sure why but things didn''t go so well with the new owners and so they''re closing the office and everyones being laid off. The only people they''re offering jobs to at other locations are the family of the previous owners.

InnerKitten, I am sorry to hear your husband lost his job. Time is tough for everyone.

I have heard that some of the stimulus money is going into building infrastructures. I hope your husband could find a job soon. Good luck.

Ah okay, got it. I hope things work out for your husband and he finds something soon.

Goodness, I hate to hear about your husbands job loss

time are so tough right now, I pray every day that my husband keeps his job, mine for right now seems to be somewhat secure.

The economic stimulus money that''s going to the rebuilding of infrastructure might create more civil engineering jobs as some of those funded projects get further along. I don''t know how much of that money is headed to the Bay Area though. Good luck with hubby''s job search. I know it''s stressful.

Ack, I am sorry to hear this - what a bummer of a thing to happen. Good that he has lots of experience so he can find something else. This economy is so difficult. Hang in there.

You never know, his next job may be the best one ever - sometimes a wrenching change creates great opportunity.

I''m so sorry to hear about your husband''s job. My husband is a chemical/process design engineer. His office branch has gone from over 150 people to around 60. Their Civil department is nearly gone, and they only have one mechanical engineer left and 8 chemical engineers left. They are operating on a skeleton crew and we feel lucky for each week he remains employed. They branch is trying hard to stay afloat until 2010, which is when they think companies will start spending again. It''s tough. Good luck to your husband.

Very sorry to hear this Inner, very tough out there

Hopefully he will find something soon..

Innerkitten: I''m so sorry to hear this -- it must be very stressful. But... ditto Rainwood and Beacon. The stimulus money is getting out and large chunks are going to infrastructure projects. And hopefully, your hubby will son find a job that challenges him and leaves him eager to get to work each day!

**** dust! ****

IK, so sorry to hear this. My best wishes and positive thoughts go out to you and your DH. Hugs!!!

Innerkitten, so sorry to hear this.

My office also announced yesterday that they were making a deep cut in staffing due to the financial crisis. I am a chemical engineer myself (in Perth) and we have a boom/bust economy here so everyone is being made redundant right left and centre.

I hope your hubby finds another job.

I'm so sorry honey. I know nothing and no one in his field, else I'd offer what I could to help. ((HUGE HUGS)) and MUCH DUST!

I am so sorry to hear. I hope your husband finds a new job soon.

I''m sorry to hear that. I hope that he finds something soon.

Inner - I''m sorry to hear about your husband''s office. The good news is with his experience he should find something quickly. From what I gather, many companies look for good and knowledgeable engineers. Good luck, and give him our best!

oh no , i am so sorry I wish you and your husband the best

I am so sorry to hear this. My DH lost his job in October and it took 6 months to find a new job. He does warehouse work but when no one''s buying, no one''s shipping. It was really hard for him because he felt he wasn''t fullfilling his duties of making a financial contribution to the household. I think it affected him more mentally than it did us financially. It was hard, financially, but unemployment did help out...even though it doesn''t pay well at all. Good Luck that there''s a job out there for your DH right around the corner.

Sorry to hear this! Hope he finds an even *better* job soon!

So sorry to hear this. Hope your DH finds a job soon.

Ah, sorry about your husband''s job loss. Best of luck to him. I hope he quickly finds a good job he likes that has great medical benefits!
