http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/20090515/sc_mcclatchy/3234191_1 She went on vacation and the bugs came home with her. It cost her thousands of dollars and months to get rid of them. I couldn''t believe how awful it was... but they really are resistant, her insurance didn''t cover the damage, and the exterminators wouldn''t guarantee they would be able to get rid of them. Scary. I refuse to stay at a hotel right now. It''s got me that creeped out. She stayed at a 5 star hotel BTW, in the US.

Great, right before I leave for a hotel.

It is pretty common though, lots of hotels in Vegas have had problems with them.

Ugh. We thought we had bedbugs when I lived in NYC - let me tell you - the anxiety is SO true. Woke up every night FREAKING OUT that bugs were in the bed. Luckily, we didn''t have any bugs. But what a terrible experience just to think I had them. A friend who had them got them from her boyfriend. They had to move twice and throw out pretty much everything they owned before they could get rid of them. So outrageous.

Good luck to your friend with the bugs! (As I write this from a hotel.....waaaah!)

Oh my. Just when I am about to leave for a three night stay in a hotel. Ugh.

eww I couldn''t read the article or I''ll have anxiety issues tonight!

A coworker managed to bring back a scorpion! Her luggage was delayed in Dallas, so she figures that''s where she picked it up. We do not have scorpions in So Cal!!

I was attacked by BB in a few pensiones when I was in Italy. I was bit on my hands and on my face. Luckily I didn''t bring any home. Blegh!

SCARY!

Blech.

So sorry for your friend!

Rule of thumb is the first thing you do when you get into your hotel room is look behind the head board and check to see if you see any tiny red bugs. Also, check around the matress edges and between it and the box spring. Do not even bring your luggage into the room until you''ve checked the bed thoroughly!!!

If you see them, LEAVE!

I''m not a germophobe and will even sit on a hotel bedspread, but I ALWAYS do what MC mentioned above.

Also never put your luggage on the bed or sofa.

in addition to what the others said, since i travel a fair amt for work, i always bring home my luggage and unpack it in the garage and put all my stuff immediately into the washer. anything needing to be dry cleaned goes into a plastic bag in the garage until i can take it. it's not foolproof to say then you won't get infected, but at least then i'm not unpacking it on my bed or anything like that. when i take my luggage to a hotel, i try not to put it even near the bed. closest to the door is preferrable or in another room if its a suite.

and yes if you get strange bites when you are staying at the hotel, def be extra careful and check around the bed, rails..they can hide in a ton of places.

i read this last night before going to bed- big mistake! i was itching and scratching all over and couldn''t fall asleep for hours!

Not a great story to read before going to bed. I''ll be feeling bugs on me all night now.
