I know there are many PSers who are beauty enthusiasts. So I throw myself in front of your wise selves in search of:

* portable, thin compact containing
* creamy light solid or mineral type powder
* that doesn't smell funny or perfumey
* and doesn't break me out
* in a very fair, ivory type cool shade
* that will cover redness effectively
* and not age me (further)
* hopefully contains applicator so I don't have to use fingers or brush
* preferably under $40

I just bought: http://www.pixibeauty.com/complexion/flawless-vitamin-veil#
and i think it's broken because I can't find the applicator (maybe in trick case of some kind)?

AND

Suggestions as to your favorite lip colors, brands etc. The lipgloss I've been using has been discontinued from the spa I bought it at. Can't remember the brand name and all identifying marks have been rubbed off! I just bought some kind of Revlon Bitten Lip Stain and it is HORRIBLE on me. My lips get chapped and I have a bad habit of picking at them and the stain just darkened the damaged areas so I look like I've been in an accident or eaten a red popcicle.

Help??!!!!

I don't use powder so won't be of any help unfortunately. I use NARS lipstick (in Senorita) and love the light and creamy texture. I have chapped lips and it's the only brand I've used thus far that doesn't dry them further.

I don't know that it meets all your requirements, especially about packaging and application, but I use Bare Minerals powder- the lightest one they have, um, 'fairly light' , I think, but the very palest one they offer (thanks Danish ancestors!). It's a cool color, not a yellow base, and it covers red for me better than anything I have ever tried. I find the key to not looking powdery with it is a good moisturizer; if your skin is too dry it looks powdery. It actually helps keep my breakout prone skin clear, I don't think it smells- it's perfume free, and it's $28 per pot, I think, and it lasts me at least 6 months. Cons from your list; you do have to use a brush, it's in a little pot, not a compact.

I use the tinted Mineral Veil as a bit of a bronze-y blush to add a bit of color back on my cheeks; it's super light , a great hint of color, and it helps solidify everything for the day. It comes in un-tinted as well. I actually use their eye colors and lipsticks, too. I find their products to be the right shades and good quality.

My makeup artist for my wedding used all Jane Eiredale mineral make-up and it was excellent, but she did all sorts of layers and contouring and I haven't attempted that myself yet. I find the Bare Minerals perfect and easy for every day use.

HTH!

I have acne prone skin (and here I thought adolescence left long ago :angryfire: ) and am quite pleased with Physician's Formula's Mineral Wear Talc Free Face powder. It's a solid mineral compact but the powder swirls off easily, which I love since traveling with mineral makeup is messy. The mini brush included is not great, so I use my kabuki brush. Lasts about 6 to 8 hours of wear.

Have heard wonderful things about Jane Iredale but never tried them yet. Bare Minerals clogged my pores so I had to return it :((

For powder I use L'oreal perfect match (I think it' called). Comes in a ton of shades, including several light ones (very necessary when you are a very pale scandinavian/latina) and the compact has a mirror and applicator sponge which are held in a different compartment so the mirror doesn't get full of powder. However this is not a foundation powder, but works great to even things out a bit.

For lips, clinique is nice. But my main tip is the tinted vaseline pots. Often I use lip tints or lipsticks that I have blotted and then just layer vaseline on top and reapply when necessary.

I absolutely love Laura Mercier Foundation Powder. I'm fair skinned and get the lightest color they have, which is the Number 1 shade. IT comes in a portable compact and you can put either the sponge or the fabric puff type applicator in it. (It comes with both in the box.) I typically use the sponge. It's kind of "buildable" in that you can do a few coats for more coverage. I get redness around my nose especially and I think it does a good job evening me out without being too heavy. Here it is: http://www.sephora.com/foundation-powder-P109937?skuId=870543

If I combine it with the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer I get a very flawless look. (I put the tinted moisturizer on after regular moisturizer, wait for it to dry and then I put on the foundation powder.) I get the Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer in Porcelain http://www.sephora.com/tinted-moisturizer-oil-free-P140906

My esthetician recommended Laura Mercier specifically because it won't clog the pores and it's great for fair skin. (Apparently their darker tones are not as good.)

I don't really use powder or foundation (have tried both but have never liked them, too cakey and dry my skin out). I love tinted moisturiser, esp the one by Clarins - it provides just the right amount of coverage without looking too heavy or oily/ shiny.

I also love lip gloss by Chanel and Elizabeth Arden, the latter is way cheaper and is still fabulous. Also love Vaseline, except I use it prior to lip gloss and also at night before I go to bed.

I use Jane Iredale and like it a lot. Bare Minerals doesn't work for me for whatever reason. The mineral veil part is fine but the foundation itself doesn't. The hard part for me is finding the right color. I have some sort of strange pale coloring that is nigh impossible for me to match.

Totally agree with this! While packaging may not be what you're asking, I ALWAYS get compliments when I wear this and it is so light, I look like I have nothing on. Oh and I an also a fairly light, so I am right there with you, Aviastar!! :) Give it a go, you may love it!

I think your applicator is under the powder. Try opening the case, then tilting it to see if the powder lifts up.

I use the Sephora Mattifying Powder Foundation. The colors on line are way darker than they are in real life, but they have an excellent return policy, so order a few and return them after you try them (if you can't get to a store). They're buildable, they stay put all day, and once you find your shade, it's excellent. The applicator is under the powder. They have 2 tones; warm and cool. Once you find your tint, (everyone is one or the other) you can work with the lightness or darkness of that.

http://www.sephora.com/matifying-compact-foundation-P190025?skuId=1011147 I use D22

I tried bare minerals and it just didn't stay on for me. I tried Chanel, Cover Girl, Bobby Brown, etc., which also didn't stay put. Plus I needed more coverage with all my freckles and spots. The buildable aspect of the Sephora is a great help.

I love Jane Iredale makeup-I have sensitive skin and have tried sooooo many others and this one seems to work well for me. Lots of color choices to choose from too!!!

I'm so glad you posted this Deco! I have basically the exact same needs. Now where to start - I want to try them all!

I use a loose powder by Urban Decay that is AWESOME! Its called Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup. I use the color "Supernova" but I am a little bit darker in skin tone. They have tons of different shades. It comes in this little tub thing that has an applicator/spongey thing on top. All you have to do is twist and you can dab it on your skin if you are on-the-go. If you are at home and have time you just twist the top off and you can use whatever brush you like. It is a really super light powder, does not clog my pores. I don't like to wear that much makeup and this one is perfect because I can barely feel it on, but it definitely gets the job done!

THANKS EVERYBODY!!!! iLander was right and I was able to eventually pry open my Pixi compact to find the sponge inside. So I'll probably give that a go for a bit. But I'm super psyched to have more highly recommended options! Should have mentioned that I already use Bare Minerals here at the house. It's just too bulky & messy for me to take/use during the day or even to travel with. Am about to go on a trip where I have to pack light so I was hoping to find purse-sized options for my whole makeup regime (as minimal as it is HA).

I used to LOVE a Prescriptives foundation stick that's been discontinued even after the brand relaunched online. Since then I've tried a Bobbi Brown stick but it's too thick and smells funny. And some drugstore brand that's too thin. So far the Pixi is at least non-smelly! We'll see!

Now I gotta go research y'alls lipstick/gloss suggestions & start puckering! THANKS AGAIN!

Stacy, are you sure we aren't actually the same person?! :D

They make pressed BareMinerals foundation now but I don't think it comes with a puff (which is STUPID). I bought Mac's SUPER thin flimsy powder puffs (they're black something on one side and say MAC) and those are very similar to the ones that come with the Pressed Mineral Veil (I have addressed this issue to Leslie on FB).

No advice on the compact but as to lipstick, I love CoverGirl LipPerfection. It's in kind of a square bottle with a block of color on the end. They have both "white people" and "black people" shades but there are good colors for any skin color in either (my favorite daily one comes from the dark-skinned line and I'm pale as a sheet, but it's the perfect neutral pink for my skin color). They last way longer than any other lipstick on me without drying my lips out. I put the Loreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base on first, usually, which helps them stick even longer than they do on their own. Since I bought my first one, I haven't bought any other lipcolor at all.

(And if your lips get chapped, sleep with a medium layer of Vaseline on them and then exfoliate in the morning. Kind of gross but they will be soooooooooo soft.)

Just be aware that anything that is shimmery/sparkly on the bottom of the bottle (or on the website) is MEGA TO THE MAX shimmery/sparkly. I don't buy those. My personal faves are Flame, Divine, and South Beach Sand.
