A friend of mine who just went through a terrible ordeal with her health (but is OK now) has suggested that a few of her girlfriends accompany her on a nice three or four day spa weekend to celebrate her recovery. I''ve never been to a spa and don''t know what to suggest. I''d hate to google spas, I know I''d get results, I''d rather get a recommendation from someone who has enjoyed a stay somewhere.

Has anyone ever been to a nice spa in the tri-state area? Someplace where we can go to eat healthy food, take early morning walks, have a massage, get a mani & pedi, do a little swimming? Anywhere in the New York, Connecticut or even New Jersey areas would be great.

Thanks!

It depends what vibe you're after. For getting away, somewhere like the Mayflower Inn in CT is absurdly expensive and luxurious, but I had a better time at New Age Health Spa in the Catskills. The latter is quite serene and offers plenty of yoga, pilates, spa treatments, swimming, as well as a delicious spa menu.

If you're looking at somewhere in NYC--perhaps for a one-day thing--I know that I spend *far* too much time at Great Jones Spa, Bliss Soho and Ajune. Great Jones is my favourite of the three because it features a water lounge (for pre- and post-treatment relaxation); it also has its own organic cafe and juice bar.

ursula, when I googled spas a couple of weeks ago, I came upon the Mayflower Inn. That place is absolutely beautiful and luxurious but very expensive. The New Age spa looks nice but i think we may starve! I think I have to keep looking. My girlfriend didn''t want a day spa, she wanted three days away and I have other girlfriends travelling in from different parts of the country. I have to find something nice to make it worth their trip!

Saybrook Point Inn, Old Saybrook is nice. Quaint town as well.

And I've been *dying* to check out Winvian, also in CT, for quite some time. I like the idea of individual lodges--looks like a lot of fun!
