Hi guys -
My husband and I have an anniversary trip planned for May. We are staying at a resort - not venturing out. I have grown concerned over recent news stories. Has anyone travelled to Cancun for an all American resort vacay recently??? We can select a new location but not without a penalty ... just trying to decide if it's worth it.

My DH and I, along with another couple, went to Cancun in December. We heard the same stories. But honestly, do research on it, and most sources say that Cancun is not one of the areas of concern. Unless there is a new issue that has come up, and I have not heard about it yet...
Of course, there is some danger to ANYwhere you travel, whether it is within the US or not. I really don't think Cancun is any more dangerous than going to the Bahamas or anywhere else tropical/beachy (not in U.S.).

DH and I have been to Cancun for vacation the last three Augusts and we're going again this year. We typically go to all inclusives and don't venture out much. We did the first year, but when you've seen it once, you don't need a repeat. Getting to the point- it's fine. Be smart, don't wander far off the beaten track and down back alleys. Tourism is a mainstay in Cancun and they're very aware of this. You should have no issues at all.

I was in Mexico the week before last. We were in Puerto Vallarta, not Cancun so I'm not sure what's going on there. However, I can tell you that I felt safe in PV walking around town and at the villa where we were staying. We talked to the house manager about the violence in Mexico and he said that he hasn't seen anything in PV, but that tourism is way down. We could clearly see that during our week-long stay there. It's really sad since most of the locals there depend on tourism to make a living. I haven't heard anything different about Cancun - much of the same as PV. I'm sure you'll be fine down there. Have fun! :appl:

Thanks, guys!
We have done all inclusive in Jamaica and decided to give Cancun a try this time. We have NO plans of venturing out ... the food and endless beach relaxation is all I want! :D I am glad to hear others have had positive experiences recently.
