Hello Ladies :)

I am leaving to Switzerland/Germany tomorrow and I am unsure of what I should do with my E-ring?
My insurance (Gemshield ) covers overseas travel in the case of loss etc but I don''t know what others do?
In my mind, I''d rather travel with my Wedding set than leaving it home. I feels its safer on my finger.

Any opinion? Thank you in advance :)

travel with it and relax! you have insurance which would be the biggest precaution.

see if your hotel has a safe (i''m sure they do, if not in the room, in the lobby) and leave it there for times you won''t wear it. That might not be necessary in your case--but I recently went to France to enjoy some beach time and did not want to bring my rings to the beach, etc.

If you think no situation will arise where you will need to take off your jewellery and possibly leave it behind in a hotel safe etc then I''d personally travel with the wedding set. I''d hate to have such a beautiful ring and leave it behind

Thank you Janine and Kitty for your advice. I even sleep with my rings on! The only time i take them off is when I clean my place, dishes, baking and showering. I think it is more safe with me than not. I'd hate to travel without it actually.

I would put it in a safe box. I would be scared to travel with it. It will attract attention and I would not want that attention.

By the way, your ring is GORGEOUS!!! I would not want you to risk your safety traveling with such a large ring.

I know your question is that you are worried about your ring and loising your ring, but my concern is not jus the ring, but worried about your personal safety. Why chance it?

Yes i understand what you are saying... Thank you for bringing up this point which is important as well. My trip is mostly visiting my in-laws and a 3 1/3 days side trip to Switzerland. Perhaps i could leave my pear with my mother in law when we are in Switzerland, i bet she''d love to wear it for a few days :)
Thank you for the replies!

Glad you are thinking of all angles. Just be careful!

Sounds like an amazing trip :)

Thank you for your words - I''ll be careful :)
i''ll be uploading loads of pics when I am back :)

Pictures are good :) I will look forward to seeing those.

Have an amazing time! I live in Germany and have now traveled all over including the ''sketchy places'' and i wear my ring proudly. I know its not as big as yours (although a girl can dream) but it is decently over 2 carats and I feel totally safe with it on. Have so much fun on your trip. Before I moved here I never thought German food would be as good as it is and stop in bakeries, the bretzels rock!

there Sba!!!

My husband is german and we both now live in the USA. I love Germany! i love their black bread and fantastic food! I think I will be bringing my ring with me. Anyways, most people think its a topaz, so I am all set there.. hehe. Thank you for your reply!!!

Since you are covered, I would say "wear it." Switzerland/Germany are very safe if you are concerned about theft. If it is a matter of you will be outside your regular routine and fear misplacing your ring in the chaos of travel; that I totally get and in that case, leave it with your Mom or in a bank. But to Europe? I do wear my rings. To the developing world, not so much. However, there is another angle...perhaps your singlestone band needs a sparkly friend just for travel purposes?

Amethyste, aren''t you the lady who said the jeweller told her that if you lost your diamond, you probably wouldn''t be able to ever find another like it? It''s the lemony pear--right? I seem to remember you saying that, I may be wrong.

Just thinking you might want to factor that into your decision, although if you really do wear it all the time and don''t take it off even at night, it''s probably safe.

I have a safety deposit box at bank and when I go away, I put my more valuable jewelry in there and wear fakes, because then I don''t spend the whole vacation keyed up and worried, but I''ve been robbed before so am probably too nervous. I certainly wasn''t robbed in Germany, which sounds like a safe country, but if the ring actually is really and truly irreplaceable, I''d do safe rather than (maybe) sorry.

It''s such a gorgeous ring! I have admired it since I have first seen it posted!

Yes black Jade - it''s my Lemony pear. and she did say that... I do sleep with it actually I take off my eternity band but keep the ring on my finger 99.9% of the time. I think when I am in switzerland, i''ll leave my ring at my inlaws since they''ll be home all the time. This way i''ll feel better about it.

you have been robbed?

i am so sorry to hear that... it must have been a traumatizing experience

I would leave it at home.... I never travel with my ring... It''s not that I am scared of losing it, I just don''t want people to be tempted to rob me or hurt me in any way... Germany and Switzerland are pretty safe countries but you never know... I wouldn''t risk it. When I went on my honeymoon I put my rings in my safety deposit box and travelled with a cheaper ring I bought from LOGR as my wedding ring.

I don''t know what area you live in but I don''t think you''ll be any more likely to get robbed in Switzerland/Germany than you would at home. Although I do understand your concerns. I''m no expert on crime but I''d feel safer in Switzerland than in some US cities

+1. I am of the "If you''d wear it if you were living there, wear it when you travel" school of thought.

Ditto ilovethiswebsite, we always keep unworn jewelry, wills & records in a safe deposit box. My current jewelry goes there while visiting family in the UK & Australia, transit worries me some and I can''t hold family responsible for my belongings. I only travel with ''older'' watch and my ani band, Good luck.

Your ring is too unique for reliance on insurance. In your shoes, I'd stick the ring in a safe deposit box and wear a simple band while in Europe.

Hope you have an enjoyable time.

That''s so funny! I''m exactly like this too. If I try to sleep with my rings off, I panic and think I''m going to lose them. Some how. Or someone will break in and just take them. They DO feel safer on my fingers... :)

oh my!! You must be my sister! I tried to sleep without them a couple of times, but I would wake up in the middle of the night to put them back on cause i don''t like to know they are not on my finger!!!

I just traveled out of the country and my e-ring and eternity made the trip with me. I wasn''t leaving those babies home

Germany and Switzerland are safe and very well of countries. although they dont display their wealth in jewels, but rather in cars, houses iykwim, so your ring will stand out.

The issue will be as with any major western city if you wander into a dogy area, or stand out like a tourist and are an opportunity for an unscrupulous person, but on the whole it is as safe as anywhere in the states I would say. If you stick to the well of sections of town you are fine (as fine as anyother time), if you are going off the beaten track I wouldnt have it on)

good luck,

db

I have traveled with my "larger" stones [yup - even to Thailand - stupid, I know - maybe back then times were different]. I have not had a problem.

As far as Europe goes, I think you will be fine now [kidnapping is much less of a problem than it was back in the late '70's and early '80's] - as long as you turn it over when you are wandering about in less than savory areas/people [ie gypsies]. If you are driving, in a restaurant, shopping, or visiting friends, you should be fine.

I would wear mine.

ETA And plan to wear it continuously. I would not leave it in a hotel safe.

Yep I agree. I''d have no problems wearing my rings in Germany and Switzerland and anywhere else in Europe.

I have to disagree with many of you and suggest not to take it with you. It''s better for your safety and the safety of the ring to leave it in the safe deposit box at home. Traveling with diamonds brings attention to yourself and can be unsafe, despite the relative safety of the places you are visiting. They will know you are a tourist and now they know you are a tourist with money, best not to call attention to oneself in my personal opinion while traveling.

insurance would cover the cost of the ring but you have such a unique stone I wouldn''t dare risk it.

totally agree with this.

Also, should the stone become loose, or pave falls out, you''d be forced to take it off. I wouldn''t want to travel abroad with an expensive piece of jewelry all bundled up inside a purse or my luggage. That''s just asking for trouble.

Ditto that. For all those reasons I will not be taking my larger (3+ rb center stone w/ halo) e-ring to Europe with me...and I''m leaving this Saturday!!! I''ve decided to just take my wedding band.
