When I was a kid, all the good catalogs started arriving in August, and all the order forms carried dire warnings to "allow four to six weeks for delivery."

Today I could order something on line right now - or even tomorrow - and still have it delivered in time for Christmas*!

It still amazes me!

(* as long as I don't order from Best Buy, that is! )

You're not dating yourself that much :) I remember 20 years ago I begged my grandma to let me order one of those dumb collectibles out of the TV guide and it took 6 weeks to come. The other day I ordered something off of Amazon and even though it told me it could take up to 14 days, it showed up in 2!

Progress at its finest.

I remember when the Sears Christmas wish book would come out and then start to drool and make a list of all the "must have" gifts in there

WHAT!?!? New addition to the unemployment lines??? Hope so. What an idiot!

Ah yes... I think my brother and I probably had the toy section of the Sears catalog memorized by the time Christmas rolled around!

Yeah FedEx!

:errrr: way before my time...

LOL! Dancing Fire :Up_to_something:

BUt it really is amazing - instant gratification has come to our doorstep at the click of a mouse. Amazing... or is it??? What about saving up for something you really wanted? The planning, the anticipation, the pros/cons of it... ? I do love me some 'instant satisfaction', but not sure if having what I want right away, is always the best.

:?

It is amazing. I've ordered stuff where they said 7-10 day delivery & had it arrive the next day. Makes you check your sanity. :D

Yow, that FedEx guy takes the prize! A twin of one of our movers on the last move. I packed about 4 boxes of Christmas ornaments, clearly labeled & also wrote FRAGILE in red on all sides of the cartons. One guy came downstairs carrying 2 boxes & KICKING another down the steps ahead of himself. When I squawked, he rolled his eyes & sighed with annoyance. I was ready to kick him downstairs on his next trip!

Another very special delivery from FedEx. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=9da_1324574164

And look what Brown can do for you . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgAq_KnDIPc

I've read online holiday ordering is up hugely and caught FedEx and UPS by surprise.
The deliverers must be under incredible time pressure.
Of course it's no excuse for what we see, just a realistic factor.

Again, I love that fact that everyone has a video camera now and it only takes seconds for the world to learn anything interesting without being filtered through commercial media.

Hmmm... I thought it was the short term memory that went first...

It is so amazing. Somehow, Christmas hasn't gotten any less tiring though! Why is that? I am so ready to get of the materialism/present roller coaster. I feel like I don't enjoy the season, just spend all my time buying, and wrapping and scurrying from place to place. Anyone else?

That question is deserving of its own thread! Maybe after Christmas... :wink2:

I'm with ya, Luv2Sparkle... Its like the "giving" is the focus and not the spirit of the season. I despise the commercialism and would really just prefer to have it all about family and being together. Let birthdays be the "giving" time and let the Christmas season be a stocking and then just sharing time together.

Oh spirit of family and togetherness, where art thou? :halo:

I do love that I can order online though! My son gave me his Christmas list and I had got almost all of it online in just a few minutes! That was great! Ordered another kid a Fire and cover and that was delivered yesterday.

I remember going out late when the kids were all in bed and going to Toys R Us when they were little. I always looked forward to that with the hubby. Good memories.
