Pearl Bridal House is having a sale on July 5/08. RSVP's are required by July 3rd. I'm not sure what their definition of a sale is, but it might be worth checking out http://www.pearlbridalhouse.com

pocahontas: I was actually considering a trip down there, because I wanted to check out Melissa Sweet dresses.....I''m from Montreal though so I thought it was far (and I''ve only been shopping once in Montreal but the pickings are slim)_ I don`t know what their definition of a sale is too. Thanks for the tip!

hewowoww? We should totally start a forum... I don''t know enough about where to buy cakes, flowers, book bands etc... in Toronto. Any info would be great!

Hi Brides in Toronto.......Do any of you hire a wedding planner? or just follow a wedding planning guide?

Starbutts(love your screen name by the way) - I''m having a destination wedding so I didn''t/won''t be hiring a local wedding planner. However, I will be working with a wedding coordinator through the hotel in the Dominican Republic.

ILTWS and Starbutts - when are your weddings? Just a heads up that the National Fall Bridal Show is happening Sept 5/08 to Sept 7/08.

I originally wanted a wedding planner but I don''t think I need one anymore cause our planning is pretty minimal (we are having the ceremony and the reception at a local restaurant). I just picked up a bridal magazine from Shoppers that is based in Toronto and has a list of all venues and stuff which is ultra cool. I highly recommend it.

Yep, I''ve already booked my mom and sister (MOH) for that Saturday. FI is still deciding whether it''s his thing or not (stupid boys). It''s funny, but because of the whole destination wedding thing I probably won''t find the majority of the event helpful. However, it''s one of the few bridal things I can participate in so you better believe I''ll be there

Besides, it gives my poor mother the opportunity to feel like she''s helping to plan a wedding since this has been her one letdown of a destination wedding.

haha good point. i am sure the majority of the wedding planning will be done by then but i still want to go.. once in a lifetime i tell you... and i am sure your mom will get to give her input regardless of it being destination or not!

Mine will be in July 2009, so I still have a year to prepare for it. planning to have the ceremony at local parish and just booked the venue with a hotel. i m wishing to make everything as simple as it can be.

thx for the reminder for the show, I just went to one of the bridal show at the airport road the begining of this year. got some information but haven''t really used any of them though...

Hey Ally - not sure if you are still looking, but if I were you I''d head into the States - MS dresses are significantly cheaper there compared to in Canada (including at Pearl Bridal House). I can''t remember the price difference exactly but I think it was at least a thousand dollars.

I''m in Toronto too!! If you guys need any help, let me know!

Thanks for the tip Octoberbride. I was actually worried about the customs and duties which they charge us at the border...I haven`t a clue how much it is. I am trying to decide if I need to go to Klienfelds or not. I also found this adele weschler gown which kind of intrests me (maybe enough to go to Toronto to see it...so I might stop at Pearl's place )

Only thing is, it's the ECO-couture line (Misty) made of vegetable silk. I haven't a clue if that feels the same as real silk?? (I'm not much of an eco girl.) I like the design though....so might be worth a drive. So hard to know if I should take a trip. I would be pretty disappointing to drive there and find out vegetable silk feels terrible

is Pearl Bridal any good? not sure if i should take a trip out there.... i have my hear set on a Jim Heljm dress and apparently they only carry them at L and J bridal in Brampton :|

I am kind of worried about that too - however as long as the dress is made in the states (my Reem is, not sure about MS), there is no duty, just GST. So not toooo bad and STILL better than what the price is in Canada. Hey - if you are going to make the drive to Toronto to try on dresses, you may as well take the time before you order to price check in the States. Can''t hurt right? If I remember correctly, the Dora was 5400 at Pearl. I think 3800 in the States?

I went to Pearl and they were super nice! Had lots of very nice dresses to try on, and I definitely didn''t feel any pressure. Just good service (when I was there anyways). It is a bit out of the way, but so is L&J so why not hit both?

I called L&J and they were HORRIBLE on the phone - terrible customer service. However, might be different now, and you can go, try on the dress, get sized, and order it on Netbride :-)

Octoberbride: That is a HUGE difference in price. I am totally shocked actually. I might need more guidance on where you shopped in the US! It jumps from being unaffordable affordable. Randomly did you try on some Justina Mccaffrey? I am intrested in 2 models there too, resplendant and nuvia (if you just happened tp have some idea). I will probably drive to Ottawa though, it''s 2,5 hours rather then 6 for toronto.

Thank you so much for the info!

I shopped in Rochester, but I''m sure there is a city closer to you? Go on the MS website and see what retailers are closest - and then just call them and price check! I think a lot of the border stores are used to it and are willing to tell you the price over the phone. If they say they can''t, then just ask ranges i.e. is it lower than 4000?

I did try on Justina McCaffery in Toronto - one of my maybes was there! The Verona II is what it was called - so lovely! I''d definitely go to Ottawa if I could - the seamstress who works on them actually is from the Ottawa store, and the Toronto fittings are all jammed into times when she comes down - so you may as well go to Ottawa!

OMG same crap happened to me... I called L&J to see if they had a certain dress and put me on hold for a few mins - then came back on to tell me to call back in 10 minutes! jeez

Yep - first question they had for me was my price range. Then they told me I couldn''t get an appt for 2 weeks! Crazy!

I just didn''t go. Forget that.

However, if someone is really dying for a Jim Hjelm, I''d just go and then buy it on netbride. haha

I''ve thought about the whole netbride thing to for Jim Heljm, but I *think* I might want a trumpet or mermaid. I wonder how they do the whole hollow to hem business, because I am a short girl, so I think someone is going to have to pull some magic for a mermaid to look good on me.

So L&J is a no go? hmmm. You''d think that high end stores were nicer to you because they wanted to sell the dresses more.

Well I''ve never actually been - it was just a bad phone experience for me. If you are making the drive out here, sure, put it on your list. But if you are going to have to deal with a store for the purchase, subsequent fittings etc, just make sure they treat you well!! :-)

I think trumpet or mermaid would look great on you!

Hey Ladies,

What is this netbride bussiness? I don''t see Jim Hejlm on the wesite....

Oh well just get the style number, and then get a quote off of netbride. They usually beat the retail price by quite a bit!

very interesting! i may just do that!

have you guys tried Windsor Bridal?

I went there and personally wouldn''t recommend it. You can''t flip through the dresses yourself, but you have a limit as to how many you can try on in one day (like 5 or something). There were SOOOO many dresses that it was actually hard to explain things that I like/dislike about a dress so that she could then magically figure out what I''d like.

I just found the saleslady to be not very interested and didn''t really pull anything that made me think ''wow'' or even ''hmm...interesting''.

I''ve heard of others having good experiences though - so if you have time and the patience, go for it!

Have you ladies tried Ritche Bridal?
