I was downtown today and went into Royal de Versailles. First they don't just have the locked doors where they have to buzz you in, they have a "man trap". When first door unlocks, you step inside and wait it shuts and locks. You are then trapped between two glass doors. The second door doesn't open until the first door is fully closed. Then you you step inside, there a paid duty Metro Police instead of a security guard.

After looking around at some massive diamonds, I saw a Monster of a yellow diamond ring. I asked the saleslady if it was a yellow diamond and how many carats. She said it was 35 carats and asked if I would like to try it on.....ohhh YES :naughty: I honestly didn't have the nerve to ask to try it on, but since she was offering... Mother of God, it was huge. It fit too !

In my most casual voice I asked "how much is it? while trying to read the tag....$2,270,000!! :$$): :$$): :$$): She round off to a "little over 2 million". Bloody hell.

It was so big it went from knuckle to knuckle and side to side of my finger.

Prior to this the most expensive ring I tried on was $180,000 and remember thinking at the time, this is a Condo on my finger.

Of course when I got home, the cat had barfed up a big hairball right near the front door - back to real life!

What is the most expensive item you have ever tried on?

No photo??? ;(

Sorry I wish I had the nerve to take a photo but the place was a little intimidating.

I laughed my butt off when I got to this line!

LOL, nothing like a hairball to bring you back down. Don't you hate those gifts?

I had tried on a $118K yellow diamond 3 stone in Tiffany's when I was in NYC 2 years ago. I remember thinking - "This is what my first house cost me, but now my house is on my finger?!?!" Weird! No pictures specifically of that ring on my hand, sadly.

I do not run in those financial circles, so even the 'mere' $118K seemed like an INSANE amount of money for a piece of jewellry! (oooh, come on LOTTERY NUMBERS!)

A few years ago i balanced roughly $300k worth of diamonds on one hand. They were two emerald cut diamonds. My do recall getting a little light headed. :D (btw, a higher crown makes a huge difference in an emerald cut)

The MOST fun part of working at Tiffany's was putting the jewelry away every night after closing. Had to be quick because everybody wanted to go home but eventually I tried on every mondo gem they sold, and it. was. GREAT! Oh, the diamond & sapphire necklaces. The honking beautiful rings. Until, in their wisdom, management decided that even though security cameras filmed our every move all day, we might somehow make a piece disappear into thin air, and forbade us to play with the goodies anymore. Before being hired, we had to pass a security clearance that would've done the CIA proud, too, but you never know who's hiding secret crooked tendencies. Anyway, it was fun while it lasted!
