Calling AGBF and anyone else in the DC area who would like to go to Tiny Jewel Box downtown this week! I finally have the go ahead on a big project from my DH, so I want to go down there to try on some rings and see what I like the best. It will be fun to look around with some other PSers.

If there are any PSers who would like to meet up there, or carpool, just let me know. I was thinking either Thursday or Friday. Let me know if you''re interested in meeting up ...

vespergirl, I would so much love to be a part of your project as well as (finally) to see The Tiny Jewel Box...but reality will keep me from going unless I can talk my husband into taking a day off from work and talk my daughter into accepting his escort to school in my place. (And I don''t know which chore would be the harder!) Her current schedule would not give me time to get into the District and back! But one of these day we shall meet!

Hi Vesper -- I was just at the Tiny Jewel Box on Saturday! I tried on a black opal/diamond ring for a cool $25K. I was hoping to see some bigger diamonds, but didn''t see any in the case. I didn''t want to bother the salespeople if I wasn''t interested in buying. They do have some pretty bands.

I love the DC area -- so much I''m going back in June! I can''t believe I missed the cherry bossoms by one week.

We will all have to meet up some time at a DC metro GTG!

I think that I''m just going to head down there today then - since my husband told me that I can either reset my diamond or get an eternity band, I''m dying to go to a jewelry store and try out some options. I will let you all know how it went!

Please do report back, vespergirl! I know we are seriously interested in what you find and what you think you will do!

Hi everyone! Well, it was definitely different than I expected. Since I was looking specifically at engagement settings, I stayed on the first floor (it''s 6 stories high!) They didn''t have a huge selection, but everything that they had was designer, and extremely unique & high quality (Daniel K, Michael B, etc.) I was surprised, though, that they only seemed to have a few settings (like 10) from each of their fancy designers.

They also had a selection of vintage (actually old) rings that were TO DIE FOR. OMCs, OECs, asschers, they were just gorgeous. I had always thought I wanted a vintage ring, but they don''t really look good on me, so I didn''t try them on, plus, I already have a center stone, so I didn''t want to be tempted.

The problem is that all the settings are in a TINY area, and there were already two other couples there looking at settings, so there wasn''t any room for me - especially since I had my son with me in his stroller. The saleslady was very nice, and pulled a bunch of settings for me to look at once I described what I liked, but I didn''t even get to see in most of the cases because the other couples were camped out there blocking the way, and didn''t take the hint to scootch over when I was leaning over their shoulders to peek at the settings

So, I didn''t actually stay that long, because even though I hung out for 20 minutes trying to look in the cases, I never could get a good look. I did try on some pretty settings that she brought over for me, so I did get some ideas (if I do reset, I''m going with Leon, so I really wasn''t there to buy).

She did invite me to look around on the upper floors, where they have David Yurman, John Hardy (LOVE his stuff), and Longchamp bags (hello, wouldn''t have been able to leave without dropping $1000 in that dept.), but DS was starting to get cranky and noisy, so I just left without seeing the upper floors.

Overall, it''s a very special and exclusive place, and I wish I would have had more time to look around. If I were going to buy a piece of estate or vintage jewelry, it''s the first place I would look. However, I think that for engagement rings and wedding bands, White & Ivory Jewelers in Leesburg had a far superior selection, and carried all of the same brands, and more.

If anyone wants to go back some time, though, let me know - I would love to see the John Hardy & Longchamp boutique!

Thank you for the report, vespergirl! I am sorry that the trip was not more fruitful for you. It sounds like a somewhat specialized store in the sense that it has a large selection of disparate items that are unique but are stocked only in small quantities. The size of the store can be misleading: it is full of small quantities of many items, not a huge selection of any one item. Is that correct?

Exactly - if I had $5k to spend and nothing particular in mind, it''s the first place I would go, because of their unique selection of beautiful pieces - so many things were gorgeous there.

However, since I wanted to look at tons of engagement settings in particular, it wasn''t as good because they didn''t have, say, every setting made by a particular designer.

It is definitely worth a trip though for browsing, and a wonderful place to go to choose a special gift.
