meeting some friends for lunch yesterday they got lured into VSecret and I got lured into Tif''s. So I''m looking around mostly st settings and not the diamonds (mine was just as nice as any of those and already on my finger) and I see a princess stone with a setting I liked and asked about it. I explained my interest thinking casual, in and out, basic question and moving on. Well she takes it out and says that I cannot have a tiffany setting without buying a tiffany diamond (yeah so?) and that maybe I could take "that one" (she points at my ring) and have it turned into a pendant to make room for a tiffany on my finger. As if! hahaha Yeah, no.

.......... Rude, that lady - not even a lady........... And they expect to sell ANYTHING with that kind of words falling off their mouthes? Did you look at her like she had 10 heads? i know I would have............

WHAT?!?!?!

Well I wasn''t there (so I don''t know the attitude in which it was said) but to me it seems like she was just trying to let you know that if you were wanting only the setting you would need to purchase it with diamond....

Did you let her know your mind? I would have.... But then again, I have been accused of being an
"assertive woman"

If you did feel like she was being rude, you should have spoken up. I agree!

Nah she wasn''t rude by my standards - just... elitist. She was nice, helpful, had a nice genuine smile, she laughed... the only tinge was when she pointed and said "that one" like it was a dirty diaper lol

Of course after reading a few threads, I think I have different views on rudeness... I am pretty casual and relaxed about most things.

The best one really though was the guy at BBB a few years ago who was rolling his eyes at me and looking down his nose until I pulled out my unset stone... then he pulled out his loupe, did a few mmhmm''s and he became an ass kissing puppy dog. good grief! that was funny.

It''s so funny when they get all elitist when they really have nothing to brag about. They''re just indoctrinated: Tiffany = good, others = bad. Your stone is a knock-out and any honest, knowledgable jeweler would know that and treat it as such.

I''m not sure how I see her comment as rude without hearing the tone in her voice. Maybe she was kidding.

I think it''s funny when people go into Tiffany and then become annoyed when a sales gal/guy has attitude. It''s Tiffany. The store IS about being "elitist."

haha! I don''t mean to laugh but the way you stated that cracks me up...

I dunno, in a way it was pretty crafty of her to make that suggestion. Not exactly dissing your stone completely, obviously (IMO) she could tell it was worth keeping and suggesting a pendant might have been her attempt at grabbing a sale somehow. Do they work on commission? I don''t even know. Never been in a Tiffany store. They probably wouldn''t even let me in one. I just can''t pull off "casual riche".

Well the sales lady was sporting I''d guess about 2.5 carat "classic tiffany" e-ring and when I said oh I don''t think my husband is going to drop another 25k on a ring anytime soon this very tiny look crossed her face like "oh yeah honey I get it" but was quickly replaced with a polished "you don''t belong here then honey" look lol No, I don''t. And yeah I totally know what I''m getting myself into when I go in there. I never feel bad when I leave - I am amused!

Cehra, I thought you already had the setting of your dreams?? You''re setting-shopping?

I thought so too. I love your setting. Anyhoo, what she did?? She was just trying to make a sale. Yes I find it to be a tad rude....

I thought I had too but my diamond is a very unhappy rock in it

Those wonderful big facets that used to soak in so much sunshine and wonderful colors from around the environment now just reflects the color of platinum which was way extra boring when I lived in Ireland and the sky was that color all the time... but then the sun would come out and still way too much metal color. So either the stone changes or the setting does. I have the go ahead to buy a funky emerald for it. I sent one gem dealer on a mission a few weeks ago, I think maybe I should look into some others.

Do they get a discount? I imagine seeing them all day would make me start setting aside my paycheck, inflated or not lol

LOL! I worked at Express for a few years, and we''d get something in and I''d think it was hideous...then 3 weeks later after seeing it for a while, I''d desperately want whatever it was. I bet it''s just the same. After all, how do we learn to covet? We begin by coveting what we see every day. (5 points to the person who can identify the movie...)

I know the answer, but googled it, so I guess that doesn''t count!

Ding ding ding ding ding!

I love that movie. I actually had to stop watching it a while back, though, because it stopped being scary and the freaky chill it gives you is part of what makes it so great. Hopefully it''ll be scary again soon.
