My husband works in NYC and came home with tickets for the King Tut exhibit for Sunday! I'm super excited...I had seen the exhibit originally in 1980 when it came to the Met but that was sooo long ago ... it's supposed to be a total of approx. 90 minutes of a tour and a movie.I hope to get a nice poster or two... Then we are going to a deli we used to go to for Sunday brunch. I used to live in NYC so it wil sort of be like a little "homecoming"....except my son just told me it's supposed to snow AGAIN on Sunday.. :nono:

What a nice surprise! Right now the forecast is showing 0% chance of snow here, and I hope it stays that way for you. My parents are going to see it soon as well, so let us know how it is!

I saw the first incarnation of the King Tut exhibit (first American tour, that is) in 1976 or 77. (In high school.) I lived in IL then, and the Field Museum in Chicago was on the tour schedule.

I'm sure they've added to this exhibit and it is even more fabulous than it was. And it was fascinating then. I'd love to see it again. Enjoy!

saw the first incarnation of the exhibit in SF like 30 years ago and saw the latest reincarnation in SF in June 2009. its very different. in some ways less opulent spectacular and more info detail oriented. Egypt doesn't allow some of the items from the earlier exhibit out of the country any more. in many ways, i liked the recent incarnation better......very evocative of the "mood" of being in a dig....at least that's how it was presented in SF.

have fun and enjoy! it may be snowing outside but inside you're time traveling in arid ancient Egypt!

I saw this exhibit in Toronto last winter! It was fun and there were a lot of gorgeous gold artifacts. They expanded on the King Tut stuff by adding rooms filled with other artifacts from the era. It was really informative.

You'll have a great time!

See if you can chip off some of the gold as a souvenir. :Up_to_something:

I think the husband is afraid I'm going to try to walk off with a piece of jewelry!

You're going to LOVE it. I took my daughters to see it this past summer. I'm glad you going before it closes (very soon). My daughters are 10 yr and 6yr..and I told them the next time this comes back to the city, they will most likely be adults. ENJOY! :wavey:
