Do you sleep with them on?
Mine is so comfortable I keep forgetting to take it off. Is it a safety concern if I keep sleeping with it on in terms of damage to the jewelry? As it is I just have to clean it every morning since it picks up skin oil residue as I toss and turn, lol.

Never take mine off. Then again, I'm not that bothered about oil residue lol!

I recommend taking it off if only to keep it clean and safe. I think it is more gentle on the jewelry and will keep it in better condition longer. Having said that take what I say with a grain of salt as I cannot wear any jewelery when I go to sleep. Any little thing would bother me. My dh says I am like the princess in the Princess and the Pea LOL.

Same!

I had mine made for my wedding in January and have worn it pretty much non stop since then, only taking it off to clean it. :)

I take it off. I feel like I'm choking if I sleep with necklaces on...

I would take it off. When I worked for a jeweler we saw a lot of bail repairs due to the wear/tear on that part of the pendant from the owner wearing it nonstop. The last thing you want is for your bail or whatever's connecting the pendant to your chain to wear through and cause the pendant to fall off.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. I would have assumed the thin chain would break before the bail would wear thru. Would that not be a structural issue w how it was made? is that a common occurence?

I don't have a bail, it'd have to wear through the top half of the bezel setting, lol. And the chain is a sturdier wheat style, so I'd hope it'd be awhile before it broke either! I purposely chose the wheat chain since in the past I've had thinner chain links unexpectedly break.

I wear my 1.11 ct pendant non stop but I clean it in the morning with an alcohol swab ( while wearing it of course ) ,makes it shiny again .

I believe that it is best for jewelry to be taken off at night. However, I do wear a Roberto Coin tiny treasures cross 24/7 just partly because the clasp is small and it is just a pain to take off and put on everyday! I wouldn't do this with a more expensive piece...I don't sleep in any other pendants including my solitaire, but this one is so lightweight I don't even feel it on me.

MTG - is that an OEC? and what mm size is your stone? that is a BEAUTY!!!

Our bezel pendants look very similar!!

Not an oec, it's a Lazare Kaplan ideal cut diamond. I think it's 5.7mm but I had a recent thread on it if you want the exact stats. It's .72 ct.
I'm still getting used to the side. It looks almost too big on me sometimes lol.

oh pfffft! there is no such thing as TOO BIG if it's a diamond!!!

(and sorry I got the cut wrong... new to the OEC/OMC world...)

I sleep in mine - the only thing that's getting it off me is the baby's grabby hands, and even that just has me transferring it to a thicker silver chain. So long as you chose a good chain that has the links by the clasp soldered and a decent thickness for the links, you should be fine. Even the question of the bale rubbing shouldn't be relevant, I don't think: it's not like wearing two rings next to one another where there's friction, after all, not even if you're the most restless sleeper in the world.

agree- never too big :)

No, I don't sleep with any of my jewelry on. And my culet doesn't touch my skin so the diamond stays pretty clean actually. I only clean it once every 2 weeks or so. Love my solitaire.

I don't wear any jewelry when I sleep. Can't stand to.

I wear mine when I sleep. I take it off for a thorough cleaning every 10 days or so, only when it starts looking a little dull from soap residue. It's got a sturdy little bail, so I'm not worried.

I wore my jewelry 24/7 when I was younger. Now everything comes off at night. I think I have more time and inclination to fiddle with it than I used to. Everything gets cleaned after each wearing now. I used to not bother. The changeover happened when the kids got older.

I don't wear my diamond pendant to bed. The culet is exposed and I worry that it could be damaged. Plus, I don't wear it very often. I have an amethyst bezel that is super cozy and I would wear that to bed and have taken naps in it...I think it's because the chain is lighter and longer that it feels fine to sleep in. My diamond chain is 16" and the amethsyt one is 18".

ETA - oh, and I just scanned the rest of the posts...my chain is also a wheat chain. Platinum. Is very heavy!

my wife used to but said that she kept pulling it while sleeping and now she haven't worn her pendant for the past few months.

Never thought of it as issue before until someone at work died from her necklace choking her in her sleep. :((

Now, I'll always be on the safe side and remove all neck jewelry.

That's really scary! I would have thought that you'd normally wake up first?!

I always take mine off before bed at night, but sometimes I'll leave it on if I'm taking an afternoon nap.

I always leave mine on and to be honest very rarely clean it. It looks sparkly everyday still. I had my doc walk in the door of my waiting room and say she loved my necklace, she could see it as soon as she walked in. It is just a .30ct rb bezeled but I do have it with a 14inch chain so it sits at that hallow spot at the base of your neck and chest. I dont even feel it on either, somethimes I have to feel and check to make sure I am wearing it.

That's my biggest fear!

I never take mine off except to clean, once a week. Though after reading this thread, I'm thinking maybe I should.
