I'm glad that the majority of PSers are as respectful of people's feelings as they are. It really makes this a lovely place to be when people understand that being respectful is easy, and isn't 'walking on eggshells' in the slightest.

ITA. I think some of our posters didn't bother reading why the word ghetto is offensive to others. Let's hope it's lack of knowledge* rather than a lack of caring. May I recommend reading The Diary of Anne Frank for those who are open to learning

After reading swimmer's post, it's difficult to believe that some people are still talking about oversensitivity

*although that is also alarming...where are our history teachers?

"Relative newbies" don't have the right to offer a differing opinion because they aren't a PS vet? Seems a bit high school to me. Don't listen to the freshman, seniors call the shots around here!

And some had their relatives forcibly removed from their homes and put into ghettos, and have very good reason to be sensitive about the word. It is out of respect for our friends who have this in their family''s history that many of us are asking that this word not be used.

I am a history teacher, so am sadly used to the glib flippancy of teens and oh so worldly undergrads. I trust they will eventually mature and learn the value of interacting politely with those who have different perspectives and backgrounds.

Thanks Amy and PinkAsscher, I will tell my grandfather to get hip with the times and stop screaming with his nightmares of my grandmother dying while her unborn child was cut out of her womb with my young father watching. Clearly the Holocaust and the ghettoization of my family and people has impacted my perspective on the world. I am not personally offended by your language, but do wish for a bit more thought to be put into words, even when they do transmogrify over time. English is not my first language, but I try to not offend with my usage. I know the power of words and so consider their impact. It must be lovely to have no such burden of history.

Sizzle, I like somewhat blingy watches too, but I also prefer to have actual numbers on the face. It sounds like you really like it though, so go for it

I think everyone at some time or another has been unintentionally offensive. But, I think when most people use their conscience they become embarrassed, horrified, and the last thing they would do is defend that action.

That said, I do like the watch. It''s blingy and fun! I would have a hard time reading it though.

I''d probably have it for my going out glam nights, dinner parties, and stuff since I''d be worried about the little diamonds falling out, but I for one do like the look. The only problem I think I''d have is that it doesn''t have numbers or markers for numbers and I''d have an easier time reading the time if it had those.

yeah too bad it doesn''t mark the hours with pink sapphires! That would be cute. I guess i was thinking more about the bling factor and less about actually being able to tell time.. so good point. Perhaps the bling would be too much to see the hands anyway!

Try it on, and just make sure you can read the time in all lighting conditions, that backdrop of diamonds on the face may get in the way of reading the hands.

Even with my Happy Sport, those little diamonds dancing around can obscure the actual time.

Watches are ultimately about telling us what time it is, and although I love diamonds, having them on the face can make it hard to read the time. I like them better surrounding the face.

What is a "Happy Sport" Do you have photos posted?

I like MC''s idea of the watch being your statement piece! And maybe you can call Invicta about adding pink sapphires or some other pretty colored gem stones at the 3, 6, 9, 12 marks and they''d have a winner!

I like the watch if the proportions of it are right, which to me would mean smaller. Too big and it would probably look fake. But then, I suppose, who cares if it looks fake.

I have an interesting story to tell about the use or words. When I wan an undergraduate, we were in an English class of about 250 people and we had to write on the board themes from modern literature. One young man wrote "Man''s quest to get closer to God." I raised my hand and very innocently asked, "What about woman''s quest? Is she not interested in becoming closer to God?" This propted an uproar in the classroom with some people saying I was being too uptight about words, a couple of people backing me up, and the teaching sitting there with her finger in her a**. I dropped the class because I thought the teacher should have nipped it in the bud and supported the idea of inclusive language. Later the young man wrote an editorial for the school paper about how feminists are crazy idiots who don''t read the dictionary, which clearly defines "man" as "people; humans". There are lots of, um, interesting definitions in the dictionary if we look closely.

Language is a powerful thing. The urban use of the term ghetto is not the first time in history that an oppressed group has tried to reclaim and rewrite the usage of a term that was formerly used by the oppressor to oppress them.

My rule on expensive watches is that I have to love them completely to spend that kind of money. The fact that you need to ask the question about whether it''s too blingy suggests that maybe you don''t love it completely. You''ll know when you find just the right watch, and there won''t be any hesitation. For me, it was a Cartier tank. I''ve loved those watches for decades and was so thrilled when I finally got one.

What is extremely rude is this continued threadjack for something that has absolutely nothing to with the topic at hand. If you wanted to debate the use of the English language, or the appropriate length of time it takes to be a full-fledged pricescope member before you''re allowed to speak or attempt to control other peoples expression perhaps you should create an entirely NEW thread. This thread, however, was dedicated to a particular watch. It''s not necessary to bring "expert testimony" and everything else to THIS thread, unless of course they are an Invicta watch designer!

Yeah, it looks like there are several versions of this watch, some with less bling (just around the outside) and some with more. Here''s a version with red topaz around the case! Invicta must love their baby lupah!

The measurements for the case of this watch are: 34mm L x 29mm W, so it''s really not that big. BUT for those of you who said something about the number markers. I definately agree, so I will probably pass up on THIS version of the watch.

Are the hands on that watch the glow in the dark kind? They sort of look like it. They are jumping out at me in all of the pictures. To me, that seems to cheapen what otherwise would be a really nice statement piece. I personaly wouldn''t wear it because its a little over the top for my personal style but if I saw it on another person I would certainly take notice (in a positive way). Its sort of hard to ignore a watch face completely covered in melee.

I have a similar DKNY watch with a pave crystal face. No numbers. The rest of the watch is all stainless steel. It is more than 5 years old, so I can''t find a picture of it anywhere. I used to wear it all the time, and I loved it, a lot. It was so so sparkly. I probably would''nt wear it anymore because it''s just too much bling for me now, but I still take it out and gaze at it fondly now and then. In fact, I loved it so much that I bought a second one, refurbished, in case it ever broke.....

If I were to buy a watch with that much bling it would be a more delicate watch with a dressier band.
