Ring finger longer... hmmm this just seems like it''s something just for fun. I don''t really find any of the facts stated easy to believe... Also no husband here!

...is your ring finger shorter than your pointer finger? Studies have found that almost all females have a shorter (or equal to) length ring finger than index finger, whereas for males, it''s the opposite: almost all males have a longer ring finger than index finger.

Females: shorter ring than pointer
Males: longer ring than pointer

You can read about it here and here: http://www.human-nature.com/nibbs/02/manning.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digit_ratio

Do you follow the ''rule''? Does your husband?
i''m normal

My ring fingers are longer on both hands and they''re the same size on both hands. While assertive and pretty dominant personality-wise, I''m not a type A. I''m also not hairy (my family calls me the hairless wonder actually)and I don''t have PCOS. I''m horrible at math and science thought I tend to be more of a logical thinker then creative.

LOL by who''s definition??

I''m so normal I''m boring. Are DF and I the only ones with the same lengths on both fingers? Now I feel like a freak for being lumped in with DF

My fingers are the same size from hand to hand, too. I can switch rings between both ring fingers, though I haven''t worn a ring on any other finger in so long I don''t know if they all still match, too. When I was in high school I wore a ring on every finger but my thumb and left pinky, and they could all switch between hands if I wanted.

The article says that if your index and ring fingers are the same length, you''re lumped into the same catagory as women who have a longer index finger (aka the "normal" ones

I''m speshal.

My ring finger is longer on my left hand and the same length as my pointer on my right hand. Guess I'm a man. ETA: I don't have PCOS, I'm terrible at sports, but hey, I'm great at math!

Did you know if your hand smells like grapes you have cancer?

It sounds like you're half a man, to me

eta: Interesting about the grapes. DH's hands smelled like maple syrup one time - what does that mean?

My ring fingers are longer than my pointer fingers.

My ring fingers are longer too.

Why does it seem like more than half of the women on this forum don''t fit the standard? We must all be freaks

Maybe there''s some link between love of jewelry and length of ring finger.

OMG! An example of evolution at work! I bet it's because of sexual selection: an adaptation whereby organisms select sexual partners on the basis of specific cues! As in... the modern man naturally gravitates towards the woman shorter ring fingers because he'll be able to provide more coverage with less bling, thus elevating his status in the herd!

And... nope.

I'm a freak, too - my ring fingers are significantly longer than my index fingers. I have huge man hands, though - they are not thick, but very long (nearly as long as my 6' 200 pound husband's hands, though thinner).

I am athletically inclined, but I am not schizophrenic, dyslexic or depressed, and I am definitely NOT hairy!

My ring fingers are longer than my index fingers. There is no history of any of the linked diseases in my family.

I don''t fit anything! Lol what does it mean if they are the same length?
Same here!

Apparently, if your ring finger is longer and you''re a woman, you will be obsessed with jewelry too!

I don''t have time to read the study right now, but my ring fingers are longer than my index fingers.

I''ll check out FI''s fingers later

My ring finger is longer than my index finger! Am I a man? LOL

Although it seems, by the responses on this thread, that this study has no real basis. Most of us don't follow the "trend."

Ok, this is weird. When I look at my fingers with the palm down, my ring finger is obviously longer but when I look at my fingers with palm facing up, my pointer finger is longer, although not by much. Does this study indicate which way you should look at your hands (palm up or down)?
33.gif
Me too!!!

My ring fingers are pretty much the same size, there might be a 1/4 size difference but I can switch rings back and forth.

I don't have PCOS, am healthy, am not very hairy, am not aggresseive, am assertive sometimes, and am extremely empathetic.

Oh, great. I really do have "man-hands!" My ring finger is about .5" longer than my index finger. DH has one hand where the two are equal, the other hand, the ring finger is longer.
19.gif

Hmm. I have PCOS and have struggled with fertility, too. I have great spatial skills. I''m not athletic although I don''t back down when I try. I''m very assertive and probably a bit agressive...

Interesting.

My ring finger is the longer of the two. Am I a guy?

OMG weird!

True here, though.. I just asked FI to check!

They call ''em fingers but you never see ''em fing . . .

Oh, there they go!

Longer ring fingers on both hands, and they are basically the same size. I swap my rings around all of the time.

Freak checking in!

My ring fingers are a lot longer... Funny, I''m very empathetic. I often wonder why I''m everyone''s sounding board. Must be the finger!

Please excuse the bad nail job!

I''m not sure the study cited says that almost all women have index fingers that are the same or longer than the ring finger. Part of the summary says: "It is not uncommon for a man or woman to have a digit ratio that is typical of the opposite sex." That would seem to be supported by the number of PS women who have indicated they have longer ring fingers - and that would include me.
