Sounds like a great idea but get a Duolingo sub first!
Some old folks in the country side are not gonna speak English and having good relationship with the neighbours is important.
Yep ... no, I mean, YEP OF COURSE!
I've been to Paris, for just one day on a Erurail pass.
More-so than in many other countries I was treated a million times better when I used my French/English dictionary and struggled to assemble and pronounce my question, in French.
It showed I did NOT expect them to speak MY language in THEIR country.
Imagine a Japanese national visiting America walking up to a random American and addressing that American in Japanese, expecting the American to understand.
Then when the American didn't understand, the Japanese national repeats the same thing in Japanese only slower and louder!?!![]()
Background tidbit ... centuries ago France was a world leader in many important fields, particularly Science.
In the 20th century America kinda stole that stage.
The French were not thrilled, so Americans expecting them to speak English really pushes a button.
The video in the link emphasizes ... Do not move to France without learning French.
...
its a big move Kenny, good luck in what ever you choose to do
Oh gosh, I'm not considering moving to France.
I just came across this video, which I enjoyed.
Good bad right or wrong, I post things here I'd enjoy reading.
I wish others felt more free to do that, regardless of whether it gets lots of responses, or any.
If it's interesting to you, good chance it'll be interesting to others.
Ya know, I has been pretty quiet here.
Others here have posted about considering moving abroad.
