My 88 year old grandma doesn''t...
Well, I''m not quite 88, but I can''t text either. Not only that, I don''t own a cell phone as I don''t travel farther than the town limits these days.

Back when I was commuting, a cell phone would have saved me many treks up farm house lanes begging to use their phone when I had car problems.

If I really want to feel "out of the loop" I could add to that list of can''ts very easily.

I love texting. People will call me and I’ll see the phone ringing, and then send them a text back saying that I can’t talk because I’m at the *insert place where you can’t talk*. It’s such a lie. I just prefer texts.
Ditto! I hate talking on the phone! I was a receptionist for a long long time and I can't stand being on the phone. I was supposed to call my university's financial aid office today, and managed to find out that I could use the university's chat service to talk to someone that way. And I got it all worked out without having to use a phone. I'm brilliant!!!

And don't worry DF...neither of my parents will EVER learn to text. So you won't be the last one....

I use text messaging as rarely as possible. I don''t enjoy talking on the phone in general, and texting is just an extension of that in my world. But, I do have friends who only communicate via phone using text messaging so I don''t have a choice. It''s convenient for when my bike riding companions make last minute changes to our meeting time, or confirm, because I''d prefer my phone not ring at 10 at night, or later. But overall I''d much prefer not to text. I think we as a society just continue to become more and more removed from one another, with texting being an extension of that, and it is a bit scary to me.

I don''t have a cell phone. I used to have one, but I rarely used it and never used text messaging.

I can do it, but, I don''t like it. I rarely use my cell phone, though, so maybe that''s the problem.

Kimberly, I so agree with that! I think it is a bit strange how kids text at the dinner table instead of eating dinner as a family. I wonder how things will change 20 years from now?

Yes

Nope. You''re not alone; maybe its a generational thing. I don''t care to bother with it; just like I don''t need a phone that will be my internet, my TV, my DVD player, my stereo, etc. I just need it to dial and to ring. A Blackberry would absolutely drive me crazy; I hate calendars and agendas, anyway. I don''t need a gadget in the palm of my hand to be both.
