Once again California leads the nation.

CNN) -- Therapy aimed at turning gay kids straight will soon be illegal in California, with the state's governor declaring he hopes a new law will relegate such efforts "to the dustbin of quackery."

The legislation -- which the state Senate passed in May, Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law this weekend and will take effect January 1 -- prohibits attempts to change the sexual orientation of patients under age 18.

"This bill bans non-scientific 'therapies' that have driven young people to depression and suicide," Brown tweeted.
"These practices have no basis in science or medicine."

We're in CA for goodness sakes. Home of WeHo, Pasadena and the Castro District.
I thought we'd be one of the "leaders of the nation" there, to tell the world that we accept our neighbors,
and our neighbors' love and relationships.

This is something SO laughs at me for, because of how angry I can get. I cry about this every time I get a little too tipsy. I just can't imagine how shitty it must be to be told that your love isn't "right".

I seriously hate it, so so much. I have patients at work that are legally married (at another state), but I have to change their answers to "life partner" instead of wife/husband because the state of CA doesn't recognize same gender marriage.

Can you imagine someone telling you that your husband/wife is just a FRIEND? It's so insulting. I get so mad. I once got so irritated that I left this man's emergency contact as his husband. I got ripped into by a nurse because "it's not right, it's not legal". In the end, I had to follow this bigotry because of legalities.

Yet, I have all these baby mamas coming in, trailing with 5 kids behind them, pregnant with their 6th, all the kids have different fathers, and when they say their baby daddy is their husband, we just have to accept it, with no proof of marriage certificates or whatnot.

Thank goodness!

I was just saying yesterday how much I hate living here in CA and want to move and then something like this happens! YAY!

Of course someone will challenge it on Constitutional grounds and win, and it will be taken off the books. But it's nice while it lasts.
