My older son, now 17, is shopping for college. That put Adelphi and Hofstra on the map for us, and as we planned to go there last weekend, in short order I realized, I’d be on Long Island. There was someone else I knew on Long Island.

I sent Jonathan a note, and he REALLY quickly wrote back, and invited me. Then, after visits to two campuses, and passing many many trees that were knocked down from the hurricane, we did make our way to Good Old Gold. I had my wife sheepishly ask store personnel about their Trinity line, because I remember talking about this years ago with Jonathan…back when there were PMs. When they didn’t recognize the line, I said maybe Jonathan would know, and they went to fetch him.

When he did come out, and she asked again, Jonathan did a double take before remembering my mug on Facebook, and our conversation, Then, he was nothing except very kind and helpful to our family. After friendly conversation, in a very busy store, and a mention about a solasfera, Jonathan brought out not only that, but two other diamonds with very high optics, to be compared under the diamond dock. This, Jonathan knew was not going to produce a sale any time soon, but he was just very sweet to us. And, I got not too subtle messaging from my wife that the star 129 would be her first choice.

Best of all…my younger son who was with us said he knew that when he would go diamond shopping (Adam is 13), he would be coming to this store, as he saw a really sparkly ring at a price he thought he could afford. Later, Adam and I had one of the most uplifted conversations about his possible future career choices, pointing to either chemistry or physics, and it became clear that he was interested in the science of either or both optics and man made diamonds. Though I tried at that point to sell him on the benefits of “spiritual sparkle” and fair trade diamonds…he was in any case off & running.

This was a special visit for me, a long time reader and friend at Pricescope. Jonathan has very uniquely offered the highest quality, provided a focus on education, and at the same time, welcomed folks near and far…off the street, into his street level store. More power to him and many thanks from me for this special visit from my family.

Nice story, Ira. Isn't it wonderful when you see the light go on in kids? That's the best payoff!

That is such a great story!! I love what your son said! So sweet!
I visited Jonathan at Good Old Gold last year and was treated like a super star! Unfortunately in the end I wasn't able to buy from them (loooong story) but their customer service and attention to detail was incredible!

Oohhhh do I see a Star 129 in your future :Up_to_something: :Up_to_something: :Up_to_something:

That is wonderful, Ira!!! :appl: I hope I can make it there someday as well! Although they would be probably pushing me out of the door at closing time!!

What a wonderful visit you and your family had to GOG!

Glad you were able to visit with a PS vendor and the whole family enjoyed the day!! Any pics to share... :Up_to_something:

Thanks for reporting in - I hope, and assume, that his kindness and generosity in time is paid back twice over in sales, as he sounds like he is the epitome of taking care of a customer (sorry for the bad grammar - "customer service" sounded too business like to use).

What a lovely story Ira. Thanks for sharing it with us. Made me smile . :wavey:

You certainly made the most of your visit to Long Island and had an enjoyable time. Hmmm....I also foresee a Star 129 joining the family in the not so distant future. :naughty:
