So, I'm not close to getting engaged, I've accepted that. My way of working through this exasperating time in my life is to join this godsend of a place and allow myself to browse things every so often...get a hit as it were. Sometimes...this is not the best idea. This is why.

I started having a browse on ebay at antique rings in general just cause I like them. Then I narrowed it down to diamond rings. And found my ultimate ring, it's beautiful.

My beautiful dream ring...

I have no idea if it's a real diamond, how big it is, or how much it is, I just love it too much. "But it's only £9.95 plus £4.95 P & P!" I hear you say "Just buy it for yourself anyway!" Oh if it were only that easy. It's also size L1/2 and I'm R. :-(

If anyone else loves this sparkly as much as I do, and is the right size, please get it, so I know it's going to a worthy home!!!

Anyone else got and tales of woe like mine?

Keep a picture of it in an ideas folder and when the time comes, maybe you could incorporate the design to YOUR dream ring! So in the long run, you still get what you want!

+1

a beautiful design. Do get a picture of the ring so you know the design when it comes time to your own ring.

Pars, this is a really stupid question, but is there a huge difference btwn L1/2 and R? Is resizing a possibility?

I agree with either saving the pictures and getting a jewler to replecate it when the time comes.......or you could buy it for that $15 and when the time comes take it into the jewlers and say I want this but in my size.

An L 1/2 is around a US 5 3/4 and an R is around an 8 3/4 which is 3 sizes which may be a bit much to risize it.

I''m seriously considering buying it anyway. I''ll wait and see what the price is when it comes to the end of the auction, and if it''s not changed, maybe I will, just to have something I find so beautiful. Like you say, one day...maybe I could get something like it, though it''s beyond unlikely that I would have the opportunity to design a ring. Maybe I''ll keep it to give to someone as a present? Maybe my niece when she''s a bit older, or even a future daughter? I just love it so much I want it to have a proper home!!

:-) Thanks for your input guys! Am I to take it I''m the only one with a tale like this?

Parsley, please go ahead an buy that ring. It''s a bargain and you love it. I had a look at the design, and think that a good jeweller will be able to re-size it to your size without a problem. If you really have no luck with this (and btw, don''t be put off by one or two jewellers saying they can''t!), then you have nothing to lose and can re-sell, maybe to a profit!

How nice to find a treat that is totally affordable!

That looks eminently sizable to me. And, in the worst case scenario, perhaps it would be a nice pinky ring for you? Or, as 4Ever suggests, use it as a model for your eventual forever ring ....

I think women can do themselves a disadvantage if they always wait for the men in their lives to get the things they crave for them: why wait for beautiful things that bring you pleasure?

To size it 3 sizes is a bit much. How about wearing it as a pinky ring? It is very pretty.

Thanks for all your input everyone - I''m fairly certain I''ll be buying that ring, depending on the price, there might be a hundred other people lusting over it, waiting for it to finish! Pinky ring is a nice idea, I''ll see how it looks/fits and let you know. Otherwise I think I''ll keep it to give to my niece and god-daughter when she''s older, maybe a 16th birthday? I''ll get it checked to see exactly what it is I''m giving her, but even if it''s plastic I would have loved that when I was 16! got awhile to wait, she''s 2 in March, hehe. I can always wear it until then!

Guys...it got away :-( There were evidently other people that loved it as I did, and with the spare money to get it without worrying! It ended up going for £31, plus the £4.95 P&P. I know this doesn''t sound a lot, but I''m a student, haven''t got a job until term starts, and don''t have my loan through until term starts, so £35 is a fair amount. I''ve got pictures though so I can keep it in my heart!

Also, my "dare I hope" dreams about H doing/saying something on our holiday in Norway at Christmas? Gone. Last night he asked if we can move it to sometime next year. :-( It was silly of me to get my hopes up, but I just couldn''t help thinking how beautiful it would have been, all wrapped up in the snow...I thought that in the likely case that he wasn''t going to propose, the whole christmassy holiday might have kinda swayed him...you know? Showed him that maybe he was ready? I suppose it could be like that next year, I just was so looking forward to that snow. :-(
