Okay I had heard of this show obviously, but never seen it, and I saw a couple episodes the other night. It is like crack I tell you! Totally bad for you but completely addicitive. The episodes I saw were from the first season I think...

Anyways, I am really confused. Is it real? Fake? Fake-real??

Mostly fake IMO.

TMZ aired a clip where the girls asked if they could re-film their entrance into a restaurant. They defended it by saying that they''ll do it if the camera angle is wrong or e lighting is off.

Because you know when I go out to dinner, I often enter and exit until the lighting is just right.

I think it''s fake-real...I am sure some of the things they talk about/do really DID happen-but they make them re-enact them for the camera. That''s what I read somewhere anyway...

I am sure it's very edited. Sometimes their conversations are several exchanges, a few words, lots of eye-rolling, big expressions and, although you know where the conversation is leading, no one really says anything. There must have been 20 minutes of conversation that got cut out.

And who can act normal with a camera on your every move and a wireless microphone on your back?

I love Adrina. She has a 100 word vocabulary but is so cute.
I miss Lauren.

Ha ha even my DH is a little addicted to it (of course he won''t admit it!)

It mostly fake but obviously they are real people and I think the relationships are mostly real. I have been watching since the beginning and even the previous show "Laguna Beach" and it has gotten much more scripted as time has progressed. Enjoy the first season, because it gets a lot more obvious that the situations are contrived.

Any time two people are talking privately 1:1, it is staged. For example, on the previous show Laguna Beach they used to always happen to be on an empty beach with two chairs and it almost seems like they have a list of things to talk about. It''s just a different method than the usual interview room scenes on reality shows (think Real World confessional) to drive the plot along. It''s obviously not word for word scripted, but MTV probably sets them up for each conversation, "okay so now talk about whether you like Justin-Bobby."

Other situations that are contrived are parties and trips where all characters attend. And then new storylines are introduced with new "characters" that are added to the mix like Spencer and Heidi''s sisters, etc.

I don''t think I''ve ever missed an episode (mtv marathons) but honestly it really annoys me when there are obvious storylines that seem contrived, especailly revolving around Heidi and Spencer.

Oh Heidi and Spencer...

My guess is mostly fake. I believe that it started fairly real when Lauren was the star - it was basically just about her and a couple friends living in LA. I think as it's grown, and especially since Lauren left and Kristin came on, it's totally fake. DH and I always make jokes about how the producers are making them associate because half the people seem to hate each other.

I''ve seen clips of the show but I''ve never watched a whole episode.

It''s TV. Some of the events MAY have actually hapened, many will be engineered by the producers to add interest and conflict, many conversations will be staged or re-enacted to explain what''s going on. It has to be, you just can''t have a couple of cameras following each of several different people at every moment of the day, imagine having to editing all that footage to find somthing desent and interesting and the cost of all the gear a crew. They want to be able to turn up for a few hours when they know somthing they want to film is going to happen, film it untill they know they''ve got it and then go. It makes this kind of show very cheap to make.

The conversations are the worst. They are way overedited with added pauses, facial expressions and awkwardness for effect, most of the actual words seems to have been taken out to cut down time and make it easyer to edit.
